fine scratch removal on 556 I case?

Any suggestions on the best method to go about removing a few light scratches inflicted near lugs during strap changes? The case is satinized stainless steel if my information is correct, and I'm sort of OCD about scratches. You would think someone OCD about fine scratches would have been more careful...

    Thanks for any help.

Tough to remove unless you have the case bead blasted again.

Just to make this clear: we're talking about a 556, not a 656, right? The 556 in the thread title somehow turned into a 656 when mebiuspower replied.

The 656 is bead blasted, the 556 is not: it's satinized, as Sinn calls it (I'd call it lightly brushed). It's obviously more difficult to fix scratches on a bead blasted surface than on a brushed one. A brushed finish can be touched up by carefully re-brushing it (e. g. with fine steel wool, a scouring pad or a glass fibre eraser pen), following the direction of the original brush strokes.

the 556 scratches really easily. i had a ton of scratches on it after only a few months of wear. your best bet is to sell it and get the 856. that's what i did.

Scratches & Scars are part of life!
I wear my 556 now since 2 years, every day, allways, everywhere... shure, it got some dings & scraches, but I like it even more.

A piece of tape applied over the hole, and the screwdriver bit pushed thru the tape really helps with this issue.

How has the AR coating faired?

I had a Ceramic Sub for a while, and it really got scratched up pretty fast (not the bezel though). I find the 556 to be taking my abuse better. It has some scratches, but there have been times that I've hit it on things and thought "Oh, there's a new mark." But when I looked, it didn't scratch. It might be that the brushed surface on the 556 can take more abuse without marking than the similar surface on the Sub. Don't know why.

The AR coating got some scratches pretty soon, so I sent it to Sinn to take it off. Not that big difference for me, but I can't live with scratches on glass or dial ;)
Not just the scratches hasseled me, but the fact that EVERY FINGERPRINT jumps in your eye with the AR coating.

3M scotchbrite pad (the green one used for scrubbing dishes) works best on brushed ss, brush in direction of the "grain". Be sure to tape off anything that is shiny or it too will become brushed. I use one to restore the strap on my Tag, and Cape Cod cloths on the polished shiny bits.

As for my Teg'ed 856, what scratches? :)
