Which modern Sinn model best embodies the design values of the EZM1?

The EZM1 is a cult icon... wait, belay that... there's nothing "cult" about it- it's just a straight-up icon in the Sinn community and the wider WIS world. A recent thread asking members to sound off on the most iconic Sinn model seemed to confirm this notion. Sadly, the 5100 is no longer with us, and the EZM1 is not in production. When it *was* in production it was made in such small numbers as to ensure that the watches would remain rare and fairly pricey on the pre-owned market.

I wonder if there are modern options in the lineup that come close to representing the design aesthetic and the design ethos of the classic EZM1? I think that there are but I wonder what you guys think. The way I see it, there are some key functional bits that define the best contenders:

1- it's a mission timer- it must have some means of timing an event ( bezel, chrono, or both )
    2- reasonable size and weight
    3- comfort and ergonomics
    4- legibility and simplicity
    5- tough and durable, reliable
    6- CDI factor

So there it is. Imagine for a moment that the need for an EZM-like watch existed, but the EMZ1 had never been made. Which Sinn model would you nominate to fill the role? Thanks for playing.

i think the U1000 SDR (EZM6) fits the bill closest in terms of visuals and technical ability. sure some might say the sub dials are a bit cluttered and the 44mm size is huge but we are talking about a modern version.

I would say that the 203 arktis is a technical feat, and the 103 is also I wonderful watch. In terms of it shear durability the ezm1 is pretty darn tough to replicate though. That is why it has the cult following after all. Look at the the original explorer 1016. Designed to be a tough watch first it eventually became to THE Rolex to own, an now they are homages to it everywhere. I believe the next step for sinn is to produce their own movement which has similar function to the ezm1 which would certainly attract all the customers from the original.

The sz01 is a modified v7750 from ETA this is quoted from sinn.de

    SZ01

The SZ01 movement is based on the successful Valjoux 7750 and has been specially developed by SINN. The development work began back in 2003.
The main priority in undertaking the redesign was to make the chronograph functions significantly easier to read off. Which is why we attached so much importance to finding a first-class technical solution to mounting the jump 60-minute stopwatch hand in the centre of the dial. This allows users to take accurate stop times even more quickly and simply. The clarity and distinct readability of this chronograph stem from the design of the well-known Lemania 5100 movement.

I'm by no means a movement expert, but how does the SZ01 not meet your "next step" for Sinn? Is it because it wasn't a complete ground-up new in-house movement? What prohibits Sinn from removing the small seconds, the 24 hour dial, and the 12 hr chrono counter dial from the SZ01 in the EZM 10 to make an EZM 1B?

Nothing. They've deleted the 24hr dial for the new style 140 and nothing prevents them deleting the other functions, remember though that the EZM1 was a slow seller for Sinn at the time...
