Hex Screw Replacement for Prometheus Manta Ray is OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE?!!!?!!

I am not at liberty to pre judge Prometheus Watch Company here. I must admit they make excellent product. But, they totally turned me off when I asked for replacement hex screws for my Manta Ray's OEM bracelet. I am willing to pay for reasonable material and shipping cost. But the price is totally ridiculous. I am being charged 30 EUR for 3 pieces of the tiny hex screws shipped to U.S. - that's a whopping $50! If my count is right, there are about 50 of these screws in the watch alone. If I calculate based on per piece cost they are asking me, that would be 10 EUR X 50 pieces = 500 EUR. I know this is somewhat a bloated assumption, but it goes to show you how outrageously ridiculous they priced this tiny screw.

Well, talk me out on this situation because I am about to walk away from this, otherwise, promising micro brand. I am very disappointed!

I think you'll find its the same with many micro brands that use custom parts such as these for lug pins or bracelets :(

Well no. I have a Halios Laguna that was acquired from secondary market without the tools and Halios sent me an extra for free. Again, no problem with the charging for material cost. I'm just upset about the price.

Wouldn't it be mostly shipping rather than actual screw cost?

How much is shipping cost for 3 tiny hex screws? Unless, Portugal or Switzerland have the highest shipping cost in the world! I've shipped and received stuff from all over the world. I can't seem to justify it unless Prometheus Watch Company breaks it down for me on which of the cost is for the screws and shipping.

If I were to order 3 caseback screws for my Omega X-33 (9 are required) which are probably very similar in size to the screws you are talking about, and had them shipped from Europe by EMS International Express Mail, the total cost would be US$59.38. US$19.80 for the screws and US$39.58 for the shipping.

Sounds to me like the price quoted you by Prometheus is not out of line.

Small parts and international shipping do not generally add up to a bargain.

Well, the question that comes to mind is "did you buy it and had these tiny screws shipped to you for $40"? And why buy X-33 screws in Europe when you can source it elsewhere? As CGSshorty mentioned, from U.S. to Europe shipping cost is about minimal ($4 for watch straps). What's the huge discrepancy if you're shipping back from Europe? I bought some stuff from Europe, and I don't get charge such a ridiculous amount. Maybe these watch companies are gouging the shipping cost. And thats too bad. Just sayin'.

Well, I sold the watch as soon as I posted this thread. So, end of discussion. One less customer for Prometheus.

Even though it's no longer an issue, they aren't gouging customers with the shipping so that claim shouldn't be out there. Yes, if you ship dirt cheap parcel post with USPS then you can do international shipments for 4 or 5 dollars. But, Prometheus is a business and not a person. They usually ship FedEx 2-day with tracking, I'd assume for liability and maybe other reasons, and therefore the shipping cost is outrageous. It doesn't matter that it's only screws, there's a base rate that FedEx charges and that covers things all the way up to like 80lbs.
