Received my Prometheus Ocean Diver yesterday - I like it

    Likes:

    • Shipping case - Elegant and practical. Most cases are just for shipping and displaying in a store. I could use the OD's case for travel
    • Finish - I like the brushed look of the metal
    • Internal bezel - My first and I really like it
    • Balance of busy and simple - I like the amount of "chatter" on the face. For me, it is the right amount of information without being too crazy
    • Position of the pushers - My Oris has the single pusher at 3 o'clock. I like the OD's being at 2 and 4 - just looks right
    • Day complication - I have this on a few other watches, and I really like it. Sort of feels old-fashioned to me. No sure why I like it, but I do
    • Overall look of the watch - Great styling

    Neutral:
Strap - not so much a dislike, but I am looking for a new strap. The look of the OEM strap is nice, I like the non-glossy finish. But the strap is really sticky and grabs things if I brush against something. So maybe a Nato or Zulu-like strap. Or perhaps a different kind of rubber strap. Suggestions always welcome.

    Dislike:
Slight blemish on the number 9 - Looking at the watch with the unaided eye, it looks good. No blemishes. But when I used a loupe, I saw a slight blemish on the "nine." It looks like a little, tiny piece of fuzz or a scratch on the nine. But only noticeable when using loupe.

    Overall:
Nice watch. Glad I bought it. I think I will wait a few days to decide whether to return due to the defect on the nine.

Update - watch gaining 45 seconds a day.

The slight imperfection on the lume of the 9 is not visible to the naked eye, so I will not be returning the watch for that reason.

I do have a question - the watch is gaining about 45 seconds a day. That seems a bit excessive.

    What do you all think?

It has been my experience that autos need some time to "settle in" before you need to regulate them. Give it some wrist time and take the extra time to correct it each day before you put it on. All of my autos have settled down to +- 15 to +- 5 seconds a day with continued daily wear.

And, seriously, does +- 45 seconds a day really affect you especially if you are resetting everyday? Unless you are military or law enforcement I really don't see the need for precise measurement. If you do demand it, get a quartz watch.

Yes it's a bit excessive for a Swiss made movement like the 2836-2, but it can be regulated by a local watchmaker.

Let it run for some weeks to see if things are better, if it continue to gain more than 15s a day you should have it regulated.

Thanks to both of you for your comments on letting the automatic settle in for awhile. I wear my watches 24/7, so I will leave the OD for a few weeks and, correcting each day.

I'm surprised your comments on Ocean Diver have not been addressed by Carlos on this forum. I hope he has been in touch with you privately. I like the look of the chrono, but have not seen update for production. I would certainly want to know your issues were addressed before I decided to place order. Please let us know how things turn out.

I would like to emphasize once again that issues are to be discussed directly via customer service and not via forum. Purposes of both differ.

If you can't respond to a quality control question in your own forum, why would I invest in your product? There are many people that will want to see as a new company how you handle situations like this. I for one would not purchase Prometheus without knowing how this is resolved.

    Purpose of my post

The purpose of my original post was to let everyone know what I thought of OD I had bought. I updated the post with information on how well the watch was keeping time, and some members of WUS were kind enough to educate me on this issue. This was very helpful, as I am new to automatic watches.

These forums can be used for many things - I really like sharing my excitement over a new watch. I have also read hundreds of posts for education. I also like seeing others' opinions, and I especially like the pictures of watches.

If I had (or have in the future) an issue with the watch that I think warrants discussion with the company, I will contact the company directly. I think that would be most effective.

Now if the company or individual did not respond, then I might discuss it on an open forum, but that has not been the case here. I am happy with the Prometheus OD. In the future, if something about the watch concerns me, I will first contact the company directly.

That's how I look at it too. Step 1: If a problem occurs contact the company and give them the opportunity to get things right. Step 2: Once, resolved (or maybe not) post about the issue and the outcome.

It's the fairest way to go about things without causing unnecessary concern or negative buzz. *cough*angry thread about problem w/ screw bars*cough*
