Question Broken Heuer - suggestions where to fix?

I have sent the watch (from 1984) to the Tag repair place in NJ and they regret to inform me they no longer carry parts for it anymore but said it is fixable if I find a watchmaker locally with generic parts. 1st - any suggestions where around Milwaukee, WI I could find such a repair person.
2nd - will using generic parts cause the watch to be less valuable? Is it still worth fixing in order to sell?
    Thanks, Tracie

    What model is it?
Regarding "generic" parts, I guess it depends on what is replaced. Some parts will make no difference, such as replacement sapphire crystal or ETA movement. Other parts might, like using a generic crown without the Tag logo, etc.

any idea what parts need to be replaced? If it's just a movement, that's no big deal. Any good watchmaker can do that for you. If you are talking about hands or case parts, that could affect the watch's value by using generic parts.

I've heard of cases where Tag returned a watch unserviced simply because they no longer have the proper seals to make the watch water resistant to original factory specs. If you don't plan to dive, then I don't think that's a big deal and let a local watchmaker take a shot a repairing.

Well, it would only be inside parts, not the face or viewed areas. Also no diving except I think we would sell it. It's a chronograph from 1984. Not sure of the name right now. Someone found it for me in a previous thread.

Assuming you have the automatic version it is a Dubois Depraz chronograph module atop an ETA 2892-2. Depending on what needs work, parts could be trivial to get (the Eta) or more difficult (the DD).

If you have the quartz version, you actually have more of a problem. The underlying driver to the DD is an ESA module that is no longer made... but parts here should be available with diligence.

Your real problem may be finding a real watchmaker who will tackle the job. (Chronographs are not everyone's cup of tea.) In the vintage forum in the stickies (posts at the top) is a reference to a couple of watchmaker organizations which can be searched to find local watchmakers. I would start there.

Come back if you need more help!!
