Y'know, I've always been a bit cynical about TAG Heuer's modern use of Mercedes in their marketing; thinking it as a recent development via TAG but I never knew just how long their actual relationship has been.
    1975?
How much further back does it go?

Were Heuer and Mercedes actually friendly since the 1955/SLR/Fangio years?

I could be wrong, but I think the Merc is just Enrico's choice of backdrop.

Don't think there was any relationship between TAG Heuer and Mercedes until the McLaren/ Mercedes partnership started.

    oh oops...
I guess I saw the period image and liberal sprinkling of Heuer logos, added 1+1 and got 3.

With that said, looking at that stopwatch, it's nice to see where the coloured rings on the pushers on modern Carrera watches come from.

THAT Mercedes above is not their marketing.. it is on me ! I have a passion for both brands. Heuer was sponsor for Ferrari for many years. And for McLaren for other many years. And they sponsored FORMULA 1 for other many years. Their relationship with Mercedes is not exactly direct. Since they have a close deal with McLaren and McLaren uses Mercedes-Benz engines, yes, they have that in common. You can notice their "Mercedes-Benz" watch is the SLR... which happens to be a McLaren automobile, too. During that period, they have had a Kirium watch in a SLK commercial, and that SLK was named TAG HEUER version...

Fangio wore a Heuer watch and drove a Mercedes-Benz car. Also, the Panamericana in Mexico is very known to have had a Mercedes winning a historical race.. and Heuer released the Carrera watch for that race.

Other members may have more info on that. Below, some pictures for enjoyment :)

Also, a little over a month ago, I visited Mercedes-Benz' Classic Center in California... and to my surprise, here's what I saw there !

Yes, it's nice to see today's TAGHeuer watches have a lot of heritage in them. Not only the colored rings, but the pushers and crown.. and the red and green colors

Great photos guys- love these cars.

Enrico, did Fangio ever wear a Heuer? I haven't heard that before.

I think that's one of those nearly impossible to answer question unless someone unearths an unblemished archive negative showing Fangio and his wristwear after a racing event.
I recall something about Heuer supplying him with chronos but I can't remember if they were referring to wristwatch or dashtop timers.
