    Switching straps on a Carrera

    I just purchased this watch.

    http://www.prestigetime.com/item/Tag...1a.ba0787.html

But would like the option of switching from the steel bracelet to a leather strap. Would this be easy to do?

    Thanks.

Yes, you just need a springbar tool.

Was thinking of doing the same, until I noticed the BUCKLE isn't included, I mean c'mon $375 for just the croc straps? These crocks were fed prime beef their whole life or what? You can expect to pay another $200+ for the buckle...

    ZERG... for shame...

I'd buy the watch with its original bracelet, and then I'd just go for an inexpensive aftermarket leather band.

    TAG Heuer :
    2000 Classic auto -silver
    S/EL Leather auto -ss/gold
    Formula 1 -1st edition -green
    Kirium F1

    Heuer :
    Carrera -1st re-issue -solid gold
    Monaco -1st re-issue
    trackmaster 1975

Indeed, after further research I've broken up the price on the TAG original straps as follows: $250 to Tiger to pay for his hotel rooms for the mistresses; $100 to TAG as profit; $15 for the actual leather and finally $10 to the poor sap who made them!

edit: quick search on amazon reveals over 500 watch bands from just this one maker, choose one you like and have fun. :)

No doubt TAG Heuer makes a profit on everything they make, sell or represent. It is a big company with big money invested on every area, including marketing.

But there IS a difference between top leather bands, and ordinary ones. TAG Heuer does not sell mediocre leather bands. But... I stick to my thought.. I personally do not mind a nice cost effective after market leather band to occasionally replace my original metal bracelet.

    My 0.02 ;)

21mm band width at lugs, can anyone confirm this?

    Thank you

even if the brand Tag Heuer is beeing payed with these high prices i still think a great watch deserves the genuine one.
Maybe a peek at Ebay could help you sort this.
I recently bought the croc strap with buckle for loads less on ebay.
It was used in a dealer store but only as a show model and thus not used at all.
