TAG Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono at the pawn shop?

Just stumbled across a TAG Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph they're asking $1500 for (with box and paperwork)... would that be a good deal for a preowned piece? Or save my money?

I've never been that into TAGs - just too "sporty" for me, but I'd hate to pass up something good...

    Depends on:
    Model
    Age
    History
    Condition
    ...

The Calibre 16 Carrera has been around for a loooooong time and has a huge number of variants, including limited editions so you will need to provide more information.

Also, Please note that forum rules don't permit pricing recommendations.

If you're not into Tag Heuers, then no price is worth paying. If you like it, though, then as Black5 says, the asking price ought to largely depend on condition.

    You're right.
    It doesn't.
I'd seen it mentioned many times before and assumed it was the case.
    Thanks for correcting me.

    16. Valuations..Watchuseek does not offer valuations, nor do we recommend trying to have your watch valued online. Assessing the value of a watch is dependent on many factors, most of which require qualified persons having access to the watch directly. While members may provide their opinions as to the value of a watch, these are purely their opinions and do not represent WUS. If you need an value for insurance purposes, contact a qualified watchmaker who is certified for this activity (this varies from country to country), an auction house or a reputable watch dealer. The Complete Price Guide to Watches by Tom Engle, Richard E. Gilbert and Cooksey Shugart, published by Tinderbox Press of Mt Pleasant, SC, USA (commonly known as “Shugart”) is a recognized starting point for watch valuations, but this does not represent a recommendation to use that book as anything but a starting point in determining your watch’s value. As Watchuseek is not in the business of watch valuation, we will not recommend anyone, but members may address individual requests with their own recommendations.

    It's often misunderstood.

It is basically a disclaimer to point out that WUS itself holds no liability for any valuations given by members and that any such valuations given is not endorsed by WUS. It revolves around the standard practice relating to copyright, of having any thing posted on forums as belonging to the forum.

If you don't like the watch, don't buy it

Like all the gentlemen mentioned, there are so many iterations of the Calibre 16, it could be worth anything.
If you like it, check for similar ones on the bay or online for references.

    It's not necessarily a not-to-miss deal.

Re: TAG Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono at the pawn shop?

Sorry - wasn't looking for a pricing/valuation - I'm just trying to understand what to expect when looking for a TAG. It actually is a lovely Carrera (and looks to be reasonably new) - but I haven't quite sold myself on TAGs quite yet. They just seem a bit too... Sporty isn't quite the right word. Racecar driver comes close... for me.

Don't get me wrong: I can see the appeal to collectors and aficionados - but the ones I see in the cases at dealers here seem to be marketed to recent Frat Boy/Ivy League graduates with too much money on their hands...

This Carrera was the first one I've seen that grabbed my attention for more than a minute...

Frankly: I just want to be sure that I don't get screwed by paying way too much for a pre-owned because I don't know what I'm looking at.

-I make watch faces for fun.
