    TAG as a lifestyle watch?

I love wearing a watch, and i always have one on my wrist.

But so far, they've been your cheap $12 apiece watches.

So would it be a bad idea to treat a quartz TAG like that?

By 'everywhere' i mean showering, running, gym, sauna, swimming, sleeping, driving etc.

I'm more concerned with internal damage than external ones. Those are unavoidable.

Personally, I would not use a watch that costs more than $1000 as a beater, quartz or automatic.

I used to be of the opinion that I paid a lot for watches, be they Rolex, Omega, or whatever because they were meant to be used and could take it, and I did use them. Now I think there are better alternatives. There are just too many nice looking, tough and very functional watches out there that don't cost much to be beating up a $5,000 watch. I suppose I was influenced by guys who had money to burn, and I had a watchmaker who would sort out my watch to good as new. But really, it seems pretty stupid to me now to be beating up something so expensive.

Showering, running, gym, sauna, swimming, sleeping, driving are not beating on your watch. Operating a jackhammering, boxing might be beating on your watch. A watch (mechanical or quartz) can take a lot more than your arm can.
I don't have tons of money but I did buy a watch to wear it. I put on my watch in the morning and take it off before I go to bed or take a shower (I don't feel the need to sleep or shower with my watch). Yardwork, or going for a jog will have no impact on my watches health.

I agree with most of your comment. However, wearing watch while you are working out at gym or in sauna don't seem like a good idea. Those two sound like "beating" to me.

I mostly wear one of my Hublots now as a daily to the gym, to the bars, everywhere. The all ceramic construction makes it nearly indestructable, still looks brand new. Wish there was an all ceramic TAG that I liked.

I've had to replace the bezel on my Grand Carrera 36 and my SLR from very minor nicks at the office that caused a small scuff. Nowadays, I'm scared to wear my TAGs daily, especially the stainless ones.

Yeah I hear you. I also hate those small nicks and scratches and I try to keep my watches under sleeve most of the time to avoid them. On brushed steel, most of small scratches can be scuffed out quite easily using scotch-brite tho.

    ...those small nicks and scratches...
oh yes, that would definitely mar an otherwise fine watch.

to be honest, i loath to change my lifestyle for the watch and i go to gym and sauna everyday, so i wearing a cheap watch there would mean my TAG doesn't get any mileage.

do you think the TAG CS would entertain such questions if i called or sent an email?

Depends on how you pose the question.

Internally, as long as you refresh the seals every 2-3 years (if you're using it for swimming and sauna) I cant see it being a problem. That being said, TAG, like most manufacturers would never warrant misuse but I dont think any of the activities you listed above are particularly strenuous... Sauna (heat + steam) will threaten the integrity of the seals on ANY watch, as long as you're mindful of that - I dont think there's an issue.

    Ah freedom of choice!

Typically, perhaps a TAG owner shouldn't 'beat' their TAG, but if he were to choose a TAG as a beater/every-day-wearer, which line would best be suited for the task/beating?.. F1, Aquaracer?
