The quality control may be Tag Heuers fault which is too bad but the bigger fault I see is the poor treatment with the AD, just terrible. If they're giving a discount for a display model they need to be very clear about that, they shouldn't bait and switch. If they can't solve it for you go to another, at least Tag has a lot of ADs so you can be picky and choose one that gives you the service you need.

i agree, it's a shame Tag ever made a faulty watch like that.. but what sucks here is the AD, i don't belive it's so easy to sell an expensive (forget now AP, PP, VC, UN, JLC etc. for normal people standars this is an expensive watch) watch these days, they should fight and do whatever possible to get a new or keep an existing customer.
change the AD there are plenty of those that will treat you properly.
btw whats the price on the quartz there in australia?

    Not good

When I bought my first TH the dealer offered to order it directly from the factory. I was gonna ask but I was delighted I didn;t have to. Since I bought the watch the price has icreased twice - quick phonecall - new valuation each time. I wanted a a wee cloth for cleaning it....no problem, 1st class post.

I've seen a few 500M quartz with the mis-alignment. That would annoy me as well so I don't blame you for asking for one that was built how it should be. The way I see it is this - watches are extremely complicated mechanical devices and of the whole buold process, I would imagine that getting the second hand to hit the mark would be one of the easier tasks.

Call ETA or Ronda and ask why they are making these movements that are not so precise.

Re: What a bummer TAG Heuer!

I don't know, since I've started paying attention to the quartz second hand, I've yet to see one that hits all markers exactly on the spot. Some are a lot worse than others (my Casio Waveceptor is all over the place on every tick), but even my Breitling Airwolf is slightly off on some of the markers. Same goes for my TAG Aquatimer. It really doesn't bother me if it is consistent and only slightly off (I'm talking less than 1/10 of a second or so).

Another thing to consider in this case is that the new one the AD would order from TAG Heuer could also have the slightly mis-aligned second hand. I think for anyone who is really needs the second hand to hit all markers spot on, they almost have to buy one that's in-stock at the store so they can verify the second hand.

Yeah hopefully the AD was listening when I suggested that they ask the supplier to check the watch before sending it that the second hand alignment was accurate. I have seen several watches that were fine, but unfortunately they were all the orange or blue dial and I want black. My Formula 1 and 2000 quartz both aligned fine, this is the first model that I have noticed this fault.
And for gigi cro: the official RRP of the AR 500M in Australia is $3000 for the auto and $2500 for the quartz, less whatever discount you can work out with the AD.

Re: What a bummer TAG Heuer!

I have a blue Aquaracer 500m quartz and the second hand is also mis aligned. Most of the watches (no matter the company) are like that.
I noticed that the second hand vibrate a little when the watch is vertical and the second hand in range 45-55 sec.
It's looks like the second hand is a little loose (getting affect by the gravity)...
I don't know if this is intentionally or not.
Does your hands seconds behave the same?

Re: What a bummer TAG Heuer!

One of the main reasons I'm not crazy about quartz watches is that I have yet to see one where the seconds hand lines up with the marks. To do so I think is the exception rather than the rule, even for every expensive quartz watches, like a Sinn oil filled job I handled recently.

I have many quartz that do not perfectly align up with the ticks but so what, this is not a concern for me and I believe it is common, you could but it and maybe get it adjusted but I have some fairly expensive quartz watches that do the same thing, if that is a real concern for you than good luck with finding one, I have a few but I believe those are probably not the mainstream
