Fortis B-42 GMT Diver quality ?

    Hi all Fortis owners,

I have a question regarding my latest purchase, I bought this watch in Zurich from a 2and hand watch store and I love the watch but I did not notice in the store that it had some ugly issues. Only if I put the watch under a bright lamp I can see that the numbers 4 and 6 is starting to miss the blue color. Is this a quality issue or some thing to expect from a 6 years old Fortis watch.

I have sent the details (serial number) to Fortis but no reply

Any one out there who can bring some light on this.

    Thanks in advance

The picture of the watch is in Dropbox if the URL feels scary.

I have no problems with this on my watch of the same model. The neither hands nor hour markers are showing any signs of missing blue color.

I have now verified that this watch is genuine with Fortis and they told me that this problem will easily be fixed by an fortis service dealer.

yes, it will require installing a new dial

i am surprised the coloring has either faded/tarnished or perhaps it has been chipped off?

wonder if a not so great watchmaker serviced the watch and in doing so messed up the dial upon re-assembling?

    good luck... great looking watch

I have had exactly the same issue with a 2nd hand 640.10.141 diver chronograph...except mine is worse. All the numbers have about 50% of the blued finish. Not to mention the chrono's second hand lume disc has fallen off and been reduced to chunks...some of which have worked their way into the day-date window and more than likely into the innards. I have since decommissioned it until I can send it to Gevril.

I have a B42 chrono/GMT with the blue markers and hands and so far, no problems. But I have heard of the problems listed here. Don't know if it was a bad batch of dials or if environmental conditions play a part, although with a 200 meter rated watch, you would think it would be protected from external things that could cause deterioration.

I love the watch and the blue really makes it, so hopefully mine will be okay. I had one experience with Fortis service about 12 years ago and it was only so-so, but they have a different network now, so if I need something service oriented, I will check back here.

    Cheers,

    -Marc
