Picture I broke down and bought myself a DSLR - couldn't wait to try it

After trying several (good) digital cameras I finally broke down and bought myself a DSLR. Of course I couldn't wait to try it out at the airport. Unfortunately the weather was very poor (dark light and storm), but at least the weather created some nice backgrounds The pics are resized only...

    Hi -

So which one did you get, Micha? The Nikon that you mentioned when we had lunch, or did you get something else?

I got something else I found a great offer on an Olympus E-510 with both 14-42mm and 42-150mm lenses. I prefered this one because it offers more options than the Nikon D40, has more mPixel (10) and most importantly: a built in image stabilizer

Re: I broke down and bought myself a DSLR - couldn't wait to try it

    Hi -

Great minds think alike: this is exactly what I got this last summer. You will be thrilled with the lenses, they are really nice.

You may have checked this out already, but I turn off the noise reduction entirely and shoot almost nothing but RAW. The Olympus software is ok, but I simply haven't had the time to find better software (yet!).

I was able to pick up a slightly battered Olympus 35mm f3.5 macro on eBay, the 50mm f2.0 already has the reputation of possibly the sharpest high-speed macro for digital of any system, the 35mm is just a tad slower, but if anything sharper.

If you look some on eBay, you can find adapters for many different lens types for the 4/3rd mount, as it is much closer to the sensor than other systems, meaning that you can get a simple machined adapter to match the distance lens-->sensor for lenses from Nikon, Leica, Pentax and others for not much at all, making it possible to find some used lenses for the 4/3rd system without breaking the bank. I am on the outlook for an early-model 50mm f1.4 Summicron at a decent price for portrait use...

Enjoy! I know I do (when I get the time...).

Hi Micha, where were these picts taken? I have a soft spot for pictures right after a storm. And as a pilot who has landed in a few bad storms, I do like it when they clear up sooner than later.

I've been looking to get a new DSLR too. I picked up the POP Photo mag and they rave about the Olympus. I maybe stuck w/ Cannon Dig Rebel XTi b/c I shot a lot of skydiving photography and my triggers are all Cannon if I can find a way to remote control the Olympus, that is what I'll get.

    Keep the good picts coming.

    Cheers,
    Steve

These pics were made at Frankfurt airport (FRA) - my "home base" .
The Cannon rebel is not available here in Europe, but I guess it's the same as the EOS-series. Can't really go wrong with a Cannon either

    Micha

East side of the double runway, from near the pedestrian overpass over the A5 ? Looks like Terminal 2 in the background of the Air France picture ...

Yup The wind usually comes from the west, so they'll come in over the A5
