I just found these photo's this is how Navy ships at sea get resupplied so they can stay on station for a real long time these photo's are the last time I went to sea another unit was short on man power and ask for help the first four years active duty this is what I did I was on a ammo ship a floating bomd sea duty four years worth then I did the reserve like shore duty for a long time so I jump at the chance to go to sea for 17 days this was in 1999 this is the Cape Gibson (military sea lift) civilian crew Naval Reserve does the Unrep's.
The Navy has it down to an art see you have to get these steel cable across to the othe ship while both ship's are moving one of them is called the high line you have a trolly or CDR on that one then two smaller line's called the out haul and in haul that pull it back and fourth it can carry 4700 pounds of cargo and it is dangerous work on the main deck you can have two ships on each side unreping at the same time and then a helicpter picking up stuff on the flight deck all this at the same time.
This ship was using are ship to practice a board and search.
here me I am the one in the sun glasses glad I did this one before I retired from the reserve.
