"Bottom Time", not bad but I was thinking about something that had a more official sounding ring to it.

I'd like to see DOXA support this in an official manner. I don't know what that would entail but if they would at least acknowledge it, that would be great. DOXA if you're concerned about liability, that can be handled simply by having all participants sign waivers.

I'm hoping that the DOXA guys are waiting and watching in the wings to see if this thing is really going to come together. I know now that it is going to happen and it will be a first class event. Definitely an event that they'd be proud to have an affiliation with

Well, if it makes you feel any better, all of the units are equipped with wireless internet. Dive in the morning and have all afternoon to take care of the DOXA customers.

Really though, it would be great if you could make the event.

I have waterproof laptop (hammerhead), but the problem is the phone calls. I do most of my work on the phone.

I would not want to miss the opportunity to make sure that someone was properly taken care of.

    John,

I don't know who you have cellular phone service with, but Cingular works on the island. You'll have to set your account up for international calling, but it's possible. We all had work to do while on the trip and having cell coverage was nice.

See, just forward the DOXA line to the cell. The dive boat is back at the dock by 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time everyday, so you'll have all afternoon to take care of the customers

Even better than the cell phone would be an IP phone, as in Vonage or similar. The phone system I have at work supports this, as long as I have an internet connection I have an extension off my work system.

Sounds great, guys. Wish I dived, or could even just make the trip. Have fun, take lots of pictures.

Cingular uses GSM phones, so a sim card in an unlocked phone (as you stated, set up for international calling) should be all that is nec. Might be a local Sim available there too. If the internet connection and computer are reasonably fast, Skype, Yahoo messenger with voice, and other internet voice services might be fine too. We used all of the above calliing home from Iraq. The local sim was $.30 per minute to the USA. Skype was $.02 and Yahoo was $.01. These last two worked better for some than others. I attribute that mainly to the individual computer mostly, along with a crappy ISP. Here, they work fine for me (had more trouble than most with them over there, so I used the cell).
    Regards, T Bone.

I just checked airfare real quick, and came up with $552 (from MN)... I was afraid it would be much more... I'll have to see if my travel agent can do better than that.

I think we can make this happen guys!

(might have to put a hold on watch purchases for a while, but that's okay)

    Thor,

Not bad on the airfare. The event will have a failry early deadline, say around June. This will give those who commit, plenty of time to find and book the cheapest airfare.

The event will happen even if I'm the only one there. The diving was so awesome that I can't wait to go back.

Right now, I'm trying to get some fun stuff lined up around the actual diving. I'll post the details once they're all sorted out.

    Have a nice day.

I'd love to join in, but have a previous engagement in Iraq
