For about the past three years I have been wearing a NYC Chinatown purchased BR01-94. In all honesty... it was a pretty brilliant copy (no one ever noticed), I got plenty of compliments, and it ran like a top (including the chrono).

As of this week, I have finally corrected my ways and now own the real deal! I have to admit... I was never happy owning the fake, but she did do a great job for me.

Do you still have the fake? It would be interesting to get a few higher res shots of both watches for comparision. Better yet make it a poll to see who can spot the fake, then don't tell the awnser for a week or so.
Also what was the first difrence you noticed betwen the two? And dont say price . I'd guess maybe weight.

I think the differences are glaringly obvious... but I will gladly post the side by side. The other key note is the chrono reset button recently feel off the fake... not bad for three years of use.

Key differences:
- the fake is not as thick
- Chrono buttons slope toward the crown
- Crown is a little bigger
- the 24 hr chrono on the fake is a 24hr clock - example, if the time is 1PM on the watch, the dial would show 13.

Sorry to all for not posting the side by side pics yet... been a bit busy.

In all honesty, the knock-off was pretty solid - kept accurate time and the chrono worked. Without studying it, you wouldn't have noticed. The fake served me well and I got to test my comfort with the size of the watch before I spent a reasonable amount of money on the real deal.

A few of my close friends knew about the fake... but outside of that I am not sure that I care. My best friend was with me when I bought it in Chinatown... I have not told him about buying the new one and I don't think I will. My watches are for me - not everyone else - no congratulations needed. I happily wear it, but avoid showing it off outside of when people notice. I am lucky and proud to have the real deal on my arm.

Slight change of topic, but...
I don't know how others feel on the site, but I'm glad share my purchases with watch folks... they get it. Outside of that group, I prefer to not be judged for spending $Xk on what can be considered a frivolous purchase.

That's a really good point... would be disappointing to shell out £3.5k only to decide a couple of weeks later that the watch is too big.

I've started with a (genuine ) BR03 Type Aviation and, to be honest, I really don't see me ever making a move to the BR01... the BR03 case is plenty big enough for me.
