    case size doubt: please help

As I'm not sure how non circular case size is measured by different manufacturers, can anyone confirm if the ocean GMT is about 2mm larger than the rolex it hommages?
    Thank you!

The Rolex 1655 was 39mm and the Ocean GMT is 42mm. The Ocean GMT looks much bigger than 42mm. When I put mine next to my 39mm Submariner, the size difference is quite dramatic.

For the Ocean GMT-Black-Red, the bezel outer diameter measures 42mm. The case diameter under the the bezel measures 41mm (without crown). The bezel insert/inlay outer diameter measures 39mm vs 37.5mm or 37.7mm of the Rolex GMT. So, yes, the Ocean GMT is a physically larger watch. Does the Ocean wear larger? I ask because the visible crystal itself is 31mm (Ocean GMT) vs 30.5mm (GMT Master).

Watcholic, yes it wears much larger. I ran out and took a quick cell phone pic of my GMT next to my 14060M to show the size difference (apologies for the poor pic quality, but it show what I want to show). Not only is the watch case and bezel larger, but the 22mm almost-non-tapered bracelet on the GMT really contributes to its large wrist presence. I would say it even wears bigger than my Seiko SKX007. The GMT would not ever be confused with a 1655, not even from 50 feet away. Hope this helps.

thank you Doug, it's significantly larger, the image says it all.
Is the dial greyish compared to the black of the Rolex, of it's just the particular light of this picture?
I need (well... need...!!!) a GMT watch and are undecided between the ocean 1 GMT and the ocean vintage gmt, size seems perfect, but buying a watch without seeing it in person is a bit akward... and the ocean vintage gmt seems a bit cheap in finishing in the images, compared to the ocean1 gmt...

The Rolex has a very deep, gloss black dial and the Steinhart has more of a matte black dial but definitely black. As for build quality, the only Steinhart I own is my GMT and it is a very solid watch, and IMO very well finished. My only gripes with the watch are the very large size (my bad for not doing enough research) and the very, very irritating-but-all-to-common misaligned GMT hand. No excuse for that on a watch at this price point.

frenco, I understand your concern but do not worry. You will find the build quality to be excellent especially considering the price. I have three Steinhart's now, including an O1VR, and each of them is done very well. Are they perfect? No, as Doug mentioned with his GMT hand. Are they as good as my Omega or Breitling? Maybe not but very close. Besides the Steinhart's cost a fraction of the others. Good luck with whichever you choose and let us know when you have made up your mind.
