There have been a number of threads on this subject recently. In my short time on these forums, I must have seen this question crop up a half dozen times. If you use the search function of the forums, I'm sure you'll find your answer.
Current Collection
Stowa - Airman Ikarus
Stowa - Antea Black
Tissot - Le Locle
Tissot - PRS200
using the search function on this one will give you an idea. There is no set dollar amount. we all have different incomes so what is affordable to me isn't for the next guy.
Any way we could make some of the previous "affordable" threads which have 100's of replies a "sticky" at the top so we can sort of let this beast lie.
Dont mean anything discouraging Techno and this is no knock on your poll, just we get this topic about every two weeks and it does get kicked around a lot. In the end, we just sort of talk about watches here, not really caring a whole lot about price. If you do have specific interests there are a whole lot of other fora on specific watch subjects here on WUS also,
It really helped doing this with the "Panerai homage" threads as I have not seen one of those pop up since making it a sticky. Used to be we had one of those every week.

Im my mind affordable is something that anyone can afford. I am rather well off but I still prefer my watches to be rather cheap. My latest watch is a $45 Alpha which I consider affordable for most of us.
I might not have understood the term affordable as english is not my native language, but my impression is that there are too many expensive watches in the affordable forum.
Breitlings anf Rolexes are not affordable even if I can afford them IMHO.

I selected less than 1K because if my wife finds out I spent more than that on a watch I would be in a tent in the backyard, and right now it is 15 degrees out
Seriously though, if you can afford it, it is affordable. If you can't pay your rent/mortgage because of a watch purchase, then it isn't! Two years ago I would have said $250, but if I save my money (or get an extra class to teach/bunch of gigs etc.) then a whole new world opens up. I have plenty of watches in the <$100 category and am happy with them. I am just as happy with my more expensive purchases. It is whatever gives you happiness and doesn't break your bank, IMHO.
Cheers,
Griff
Personally, if someone is comfortable spending money on a watch that they think is affordable, its all good with me be it a £20 or £20,000 piece.
"...the most grotesque and sick manipulation of a cinema audience's feelings that I've ever seen since Leni von Riefenstahl's 'Triumph of the Will' " - Will Self on Love Actually
Here is where the question is flawed IMO and has no true answer as we already know:
One individual may spend an average of $200-$300 per watch, I think most would agree this is considered affordable. This same individual may have 4-5 watches...
Another individual may have one watch that cost $1,500, which some would consider not affordable or on the high side.
They are both relatively the same, yet very different examples. Everyone's version of affordable is different based on their own individual comfort spending levels. Some can afford more expensive, but chose not to spend that kind of money on a watch. While others will save for years for that "one" watch. Both examples again are perceived very differently and yet affordable.
Affordable - has no answer, only perspective..............
Better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done...
