Not possible, Laco needs the caseback because caseback+case determine the orientation of the engraving.

Because of shipping hassles I find Lacos suggestion to be very good.

I like Laco's plan. If I'm reading it right, the back will be the same as it is now, only the engraving will be deeper and the entire caseback including the engraving will be the same finish.

The only negative is that a watch repairer must swap casebacks and check for waterproofness twice, along with paying for postage once in order to return our caseback. I assume we can keep the display back, although I am willing to send it back.

I'm willing to absorb the cost in order to have a nicer caseback and I think Laco's offer to change the caseback is very generous.

Since Laco is going above and beyond my expectations, now I will thank them instead of just expressing my appreciation.

What about, for the people apointed to the blued hands (like me), sending the watch back and do all the work at once?

Less hassle, no need to have extra casebacks...

I think this is the best solution for those of us who are unable to find a competent watchmaker to remove/install display/remove and fit the new back and then later do the hands.

Is Laco open to this idea?

Update from Laco on re-engraving the case-back:

Until now we have the following numbers noted for new back engravement:

02, 03, 08, 09, 10, 11, 20, 21, 24, 26, 27, 28, 31, 34, 36, 37, 38, 40, 44, 47, 50.

We will contact the members on monday by e-mail to explain the procedure.
The members who did not contact us until monday 03.11.2008 will not get
the backs re-engraved. We only can re-engrave all backs together at one time.

Hi Bhanu,

Can we request Laco for a solid case back without engraving as our backup instead of sending back our casebacks all the way to Germany? In the end we will keep the faulty engraved back as reserve and we are free to use the solid caseback which would naturally look good anyhow? I think this will be a good compromise for a botched job.
