Re: LACO Pilot Watch-Have your say!!!!!!!!

    Hi Mescalito and all

I have contacted Laco by email, even before I started this thread. No response till todate.

Based on above postings, the spec for the watch is almost there, but the potential demand/business can hardly excite Laco...IMHO

We have to reach out and get more responses from more like-minded members. Any suggestion? Alternatively, Laco could design (in CAD form), market and only commence production, if commercially viable.

The best way forward, one of us visit LACO, make Andreas an offer he/she can't refuse....ha.ha

Just wonder why Stowa is not considering the production of Type B dial using case and movement similar to that of Airman Original FE.....any idea?

    Regards

Maybe they, like good WIS, need a visual reminder...

I like the idea of Laco doing a handwinding Type B dial. Personally I like the idea of the engraving on the side. Jörg is doing the engraving on the Stowa FO for those who want it. I think it pays homage to the B-Uhr and helps give it that historical feel.

The hands would definitely have to be blue. I would like to see it without the logo and no date.

That being said I am waiting the arrival of the Stowa FO and would be out of the market right now for another watch. I still think it is a great idea and hopefully the word will spread and others will jump on board to make the project happen. Jörg listened to us when we started talking about a hand winding Airman. The talk started sometime in 2006 and it is finally done. It has taken awhile and it will be worth the wait.

Here is a good example of a hand winding Type B dial. Wempe released it a few years ago and has that sweet modified Unitas 6497 with center seconds.

I really like the lume patter on this one. It is hard to tell but the hands are blue.

Maybe they could do what Jörg is doing as far as the engraving on the side of the Stowa FO. He is giving a choice to the buyer whether they want it or not. Personally I want it because it gives the new Stowa FO that connection to the past.

In WWII, Stowa produced almost exclusively Baumuster A watches (about 6,000). Only a handful, a few dozen, were made in the Baumuster B pattern.

Just a guess, Stowa wants to preserve a "line of history" ?

I am okay with Stowa just doing the Type A dial since that it was they produced the most of. It seems Laco, A Lange and Wempe did more of the Type B dials.

As someone who would like a Type B dial on a Stowa-style homage, this sounds like an exciting idea. Personally, I wouldn't want anything larger than 42 mm as I'd want to wear the watch in slightly formal contexts. Would prefer manual Unitas over auto ETA. Also suggest some decent sapphire glass - the stuff on my Laco Flieger 0 cracked the other day for no discernible reason. Count me in, in principle.

May be we should also consider approaching Wempe on this project and not just focusing on Laco.

Wempe-why not? But I think is would be much less costly if Laco did the small changes I proposed earlier. Whichever make, count me in! Janne
BTW, Snapit, who cleaned your movement?
