Well, I am selling Leonidas Bund military chronograph issued to the Italian Air Force. This would be my third military chronograph and this one is really rare to find.
With its 44mm oversized case it has a really good wrist present. Everything is original and authentic and in good condition. Case has scratches from daily wear, bezel is rotating nicely and crystal is in excellent condition. Dial is almost in mint condition. Hour and minute hands were relumed but the dial is untouched. The back of the case is engraved with military issue markings. Movement is manual wound high (chronometer) grade Valjoux 222 with flyback function and hacking second and is in tip-top condition. Recently fully cleaned and serviced it is working strong, watch keeps very good time and all chrono functions are working as they should be. Movement is running at -4 seconds per day, consistently.The LEONIDAS WATCH CO. was an independent company founded by Julien Bourquin in St. Imier in 1841. Leonidas was known for production of high-quality complicated wristwatches with complications as a moon phase indicator, a triple calendar and a chronograph. In early 60's, Leonidas merged with Heuer.
The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana, A.M.I.) issued a series of chronographs which were designated "wrist chronograph" type 1 or 2 (cronografo polso, CP-1, CP-2). Italian Army Aviation (Esercito Italiano, E.I.) also needed their share of decent watches and this is why some exceptionally beautiful chronographs can be found in this series. The Zenith and Universal Geneve by Cairelli, the Breitling 817 and the mother of all Heuer Bunds, the Leonidas.
