    Anyone With a Seiko SBPG001

This watch has kind of been striking my fancy lately. I don't know why. Just in the mood for something vintage looking from the 70's. It's quite a looker. I don't know that I want to spend ~$300 on one, though.

Anyone have one? What are your thoughts on it? Have any wrist shots (along with your wrist size)? I have a 6.75" wrist size and wonder if it might be too big.

The lug to lug is short and it fit small on my 6.5"

Cool retro style, huge glass but wished its sapphire

There have been some reviews written about it. I think it's a rather cool looking retro style LCD watch, but I'd rather save up a little more and get the E-Ink active matrix model by Seiko (SGDA003). If you shop around you can get it for less than what the direct from Japan sellers are offering. In any case, I do expect this technology will be breaking out fairly soon to other brands. Citizen has done at least one or two very basic models. I'm waiting for them to come out with a more fuller featured one like Seiko, and with Eco-drive.

Incidentally Wally, in the lower left corner of your watch crystal, there's a slight color change. Is that a trick of the light, the crystal get slightly chipped, or did you put some kind of protective layer over the crystal?

Advantage of the SBPG001 over E-Ink is a chronograph and countdown timer. I'm holding out on E-Ink until it's fast enough to support those functions.

I agree with gloster. While the E-ink displays are gorgeous to look at, they greatly compromise the other functions of the watch. I think of E-ink watches as dress watches, while watches like the SBPG001 can be used on a daily basis.

I've held off from getting an SBPG001 because the back doesn't appear to be a screwdown or four screw type, but instead is some sort of press-fitted back. I don't have the tools or competence yet to mess with those, and I like to be able to get inside my watches to mod them or at least know I can change out the batteries, even though this is a solar model.

I have the tools and some of the competence to mess with snap-on casebacks, but still certainly prefer a screw back.

The in-development Pebble watch has an always-on screen which is shown in the promotional video as having fast enough refresh for a chronograph. I hope it lives up to this expectation. If so, I'll be buying one when it's out in the Fall.

Pebble looks nice but its fully plastic, not a single word about accuracy and poor batterylife. Best of luck to them but I'll pass.

I'm assuming the Pebble's time will synch with your smartphone. Since I always have my cell phone at least once a day, the accuracy won't matter for me. At it's price, I'm fine with Plastic. It would be nice if they also offered an upscale version. I'm with you on battery life, but I'm willing to deal with it in exchange for the display and other capabilities of the watch. I look forward to a future when such things are possible without the battery life issue.
