Speaking of display contrast... Came by a Casio display today, and the old PRG-40, clearly got better contrast than PRW-2000 (believe PRW-2000 contrast equals PRG-240 ditto). However, the PRW-500 clearly is even better than the PRG-40... The PRW-500 also got negative backlight, so despite lacking a compass (easily solved with a strap compass), it got some good cards about legibility, small size and prize.

PRG-40B is the absolute king of contrast, it`s several magnitudes above the regular PRG-40, and they are far better than the average digital. It`s an ownership thing, if you dont have the "B" then you wont understand

like Day & Night all digital`s should have the readability of the 40B

Well, guess I'll never gonna understand that - because it's highly unlikely I'll ever own a PRG-40

Haha, good one, you made me laugh

I hear you - I still got an ALT6000 (pre-Protrek-history), and I still like it. And some of it's highs, is why I after all, cant help but look into some of the older Protreks... It would be eaty to skip the PRG-40 totally, but it got some of the goodies from my ALT-6000 + some more, like compass and EL... But as you suggest, it's dated...

Wrritten by one, who's torn between the old and new Casio's...
