    I got the PAW2000 today!

I ordered the PRW2500T on July 2nd, it was allegedly shipped Priority, but not sign of it yet.

Yesterday, I ordered the PAW2000 from Amazon, and paid the extra $4 for next-day shipping.

What a nice watch this is! I'm still kind of in awe at how big the digits are. I like how they didn't try to hide the solar cell either, like Citizen does.

Already, I see the barometer dropping, and we may get rain tonight.

I'm grilling brats now, and using the countdown timer for that.

The bike ride home from the train station took me just under 10 minutes, including unlocking the bike. (stopwatch)

The beeps do sound kind of weak, (they wouldn't wake me out of a deep sleep) I think that is a side effect of the waterproofing. (my "Water Resist" Casios all have LOUD alarms)

So far, my favorite feature is the big digits on the display. The sub-display that shows the time in other modes is bigger than the main display in some of my other Casios!

    Congrats!

Great looking watch. I am debating between the 2000 and 2500.

@smaug: Congrats, and thanks for sharing. Nice pics

@loubapache: IMHO the display on the 2500 is way too cluttered and confusing. So for me, it'd clearly be the 2000 of the two. But it'll of course depends on preference and taste

Agree that the 2500 is a bit cluttered but it is kind of nice to have the baro graph on the home screen.

Then the 2000 has the crystal unprotected.

    Choices and compromises.

In my opinion out of the current produced Protrek line, the PRG-240 is still the best out the bunch (although I was not exactly satiesfied with the build quality of mine). At least it looks like a real tool watch (the PRW-2000 looks kind of a wannabe to me and can't decide what's it gonna be dress or tool) , it has a recessed crystal due to the comapss bezel (like the PRW-2500) but it also has a 24h coundown timer (which the PRW-2500 does not and therefore is a dealbreaker for me).

    cheers

A short Tutorial on „How to use and calibrate a Casio Altimeter“:

    1. Attach a string to your Casio AB(C) watch (feel free to use any length)
    2. Abseil the watch into an Abyss until you hold the string’s end between your fingers
    3. Get the watch up again
    4. Use a measuring tape to measure the string length
    5. Success! Now you have carefully calibrated the Altimeter
    6. Important!!! The Altimeter Lock will stay enabled, unless you shorten or lengthen the string

...so it is the best, even though yours has poor build quality?

I kind of like this aspect, as I feel like I can get away with it at work a little more legitimately than a "proper" tool watch like a G-Shock. (although I do have a G-Shock with a chrome bezel that doesn't feel too bad...)

it has a recessed crystal due to the comapss bezel (like the PRW-2500)
...which also makes it thicker, like the 2500. So, better crystal protection, but probably won't be as good under sleeves as the 2000 would.

but it also has a 24h coundown timer (which the PRW-2500 does not and therefore is a dealbreaker for me).cheers
Why? If you need to time something longer than an hour, couldn't you just use an alarm? Is it really critical to have a to-the-second alarm for something longer than an hour? If it is, I can't think of such a situation. If it lacked a 24 hr. stopwatch, that would be a bigger issue.

Also, doesn't the lack of a zero on the model number of the PRG240 indicate a lack of atomic clock sync? That would be a big drawback to me. I rather like not having to worry if my digital watches are on time. Sometimes, I go months without wearing them, so if I leave it by the window, I know it'll be good to go upon my return.

The 2000 does have the baro graph on the home screen. The upper left dot matrix area in the home screen can be toggled between day of the week, year, and barometer trend graph. For some reason, the stock images never show it this way. But I find this the most useful. I KNOW what year it is, and I usually know what day of the week, too. I only ever forget it when I'm on vacation. I can easily toggle it on if I forget though.

The crystal seems to be ever so slightly recessed below the edge of the chrome bezel. Just a tiny bit.

Re: I got the PAW2000 today!

I had a PAG240 and sold it. It was a good watch that was easy to read but it kinda reminded me of some of my kids toys with the plastic color scheme. After a long ABC drought I picked up a PAW2000 for a recent camping trip. True the crystal is not as protected but I enjoy the overall look and no rotating bezel.

Speaking of the bezel, the 240's was next to worthless as it moved easily if bumped against something like a desk corner.

I'm not so sure about this. What made me think I'd like the 2500 over the 2000 was that the 2500 has moon phase, and I've never had a watch with that feature. I just thought it'd be fun. I didn't notice the differences with regards to the compass bezel, thickness, or that the 2000 has sunrise/sunset data. It was only AFTER I'd ordered the 2500 that I noticed these things.

Thinner is better for me, as I wear long sleeve dress shirts in the winter, and coats too. I might have some kind of chance to wear the 2000 in the winter. To me, living in the Chicago suburbs, I have zero use for a tide graph. Moon graph would just be for fun. But sunrise/sunset could be mildly useful.

Even just from looking at the photos of the home screen for both watches, I didn't find the 2500 to be more confusing. I can tell what everything is, and the home screen of the 2500 seems to be more interesting. More graphics, more colors. I know, juvenile, right? But as watch fans, I think it is OK to admit that we just like looking at watch dials sometimes.

The one thing that bothered me a bit, as an engineer, is that the most often used feature, the time of day, is relegated to a less desirable position on the dial than the eye candy.

I think that once I get the 2500 and get used to it a bit, maybe I'll do a comparison video and point out the pros and cons of each one.

So far I just love the 2000, but I don't expect to love the 2500 any less. It's going to be a tough call, which one to keep.

I used the countdown timer again today to make sure I didn't forget the beer in the freezer. You know how sometimes, you buy warm beer because they don't have the good stuff in the cooler? I bought a couple of sixers of good beer to bring to a party, so I had to quick-cool it. I set the timer for 7 minutes and popped them in there, with no fear that I'd forget until they exploded in there. I don't think I'll EVER buy another digital watch without a countdown timer.

I used the thermometer to measure the outside air temperature today; it is finally down into the double digit temperatures here again. (lower 80s today, instead of 104 F the past few days)

I find myself referring constantly to the barometric trend graph. I got out on the balcony tonight, and it was lower 70s, and the wind is picking up. A temperature drop with increased wind is sometimes the sign of an impending storm. But a quick look at the barometric trend chart told me that no rain would be forthcoming. Really fun feature.

I think I'm going to get my brother a Casio barometer watch for Christmas.
