Newbie needing help on multi use watch

Please someone help a complete newbie to watches :

I am looking for a multi functional watch that I can use for trekking, occasional splash in the sea, rain, hill climbing etc. Originally I was looking for the golden egg, you know solar powered/kinetic, analogue, alarms, stop watch, gps, tea maker etc. But have yet to find it !!!

I have come up with two, but I am not sure if they are comfortable n the wrist, I like the idea of solar/kinetic as I dont have to worry about battery failure whilst out & about but the Pro Trek range look massive and un-comfortable on the wrist, the Nomad looked a good compromise but is battery operated, as is the Victronix Night Vision II.

    List so far :

Casio Pro trek PRW-5100G-4JR or Wenger Men's Nomad LED Compass Watch 70430 or Night Vision II

Really I am looking for a solar/kinetic watch time/date with good compass & back light and thats not to big on the wrist and has an analogue feature and plastic/material band, temp & altitude are not a necessity. And must be in black not silver.

Average size male 5'10" average wrist size I guess.

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Paul

Because of all of the features you are looking for, the watch case is most likely going to be very large. The PRW5100 is 50 mm, off the top of my head - in other words, unless you are (and you're not) 6'5'' and 275 lbs, it will be a VERY large watch! Having said that, I have considered that watch as well, but for specific outdoors purposes - there is no way I would ever wear that size watch, and in all-black to boot, anywhere where shorts or snow boots are not welcome.

    Good luck!

    Welcome to the forum!

I did some quick poking around on the net and everything I found was quite big. I even found a site dedicated to compass watches.

I recommend browsing and/or re-posting your question in the Digital & ABC Watches sub-forum or perhaps a mod can move this thread.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input guys, "unless you are (and you're not) 6'5'' and 275 lbs" nope more like bear grylls frame tbh. Thank you for your digging CollinW , I had looked at the tissot, a guy on ebay has one for sale and states its kinetic but I did not think tissot did a self powered version, they look ok very much like the wenger but if there is a self powered tissot then I guess thats a possibility.

Are the wenger nomad's big like the casio's and does anyone know whats the smallest analogue protrek out there or are they all big ? One last question would you pick a Weger Nomad over a Victronix night vision 11 ????

That Tissot checks many boxes but is still big and, I believe, battery powered.

While we're continuing not to be helpful, this Luminox is pretty cool! :-P

Re: Newbie needing help on multi use watch

Ok had a dig about, and looks like I'm between a couple of watches two are casios cause I like the idea of Solar still, one being the Casio Men PROTREK Solar Sport Watch Xpress PRG510 PRG-510-1D or the Casio Protrek Tough Solar Triple Sensor PRG-510GB-4, PRG510GB, the first comes in black and rubber strap the other seems to come with a multi strap, can the first be changed easily or does the cowling ruin the look if the strap wears etc. Still undecided on the Tissot or Wenger as they are battery operated there doesnt seem alot in it in size between the casios or the swedish watches.

The watch I seem to be drawn to is the Casio Men PROTREK Solar Sport Watch Xpress PRG510 PRG-510-1D but not 100% sure of what it will look like on the wrist, which casio would you choose is there much difference or is it just looks ? Are batteries easy to replace or would I need a jeweler to replace it to keep waterproofing.

    Thanks

They're large tool watches (almost small computers ) and they're going to look big! I put on a G-Shock when biking or running and then hopping in the pool and don't think at all about how it looks, but I don't wear it to the office.

Batteries are generally easy to replace but if you want to guarantee water resistance, particularly if you're submerging the watch, you should have it pressure tested by a watchmaker/jeweler.

Kash, you may get more help in the Digital or the Seiko/Citizen forum. The Public forum tilts heavily towards mechanicals. When quartz does come up, it's usually about a simpler or vintage (relatively speaking, of course... 1970s+... yes. I'm vintage+ ) piece and not a multipurpose tool like what you're looking at.

Anyhow, good luck and I think everyone will agree on: Get what speaks to you! Have fun!
