These are a big watch, well over 40mm I think, with a huge face, but somehow the digits seem lost. I prefer the S12 Worldtime, not as big but the digits aren't lost.

Oh, the 2nd one is really nice - thanks for showing! Looks like you can put it on any strap with those lugs. I think I have to search one on the net. Are they still produced?
cheers, Sedi![]()

Do a search on ebay for Sharp S12, there's usually a couple available.

I like the look as well. I suspect it is not actually made by Sharp, the large Japanese electronics company. It is not available in any large retailers and Sharp's website does not mention any watch production. If I'm right, I wish they had not used the Sharp brand. Even though I like the look, I can't support someone using another company's name.
If Sharp didn't register their name as a trademark for watches I think it's legal in most countries. In Germany there's a company named Junkers that makes water boilers and one that makes watches. AFAIK there is no connection between those two.

The use of the name in another industry is ok. But if Sharp Electronics cared to go after them, they would have two factors in their favor. First, watches are closely related to products made by Sharp Electronics such as calculators and mobile phones. Second, the S12 watches use a very similar typeface as the Sharp Electronics logo. Sharp Electronics could argue it is likely to cause confusion with consumers. Take a look at the word Sharp on this Sharp Electronics calculator.
Sharp used to make watches, so they probably have registered as a trademark for watches. However, I doubt Sharp would find it worth the money to try and stop any infringement.
Hm, do we know for certain that the above Sharp watch is/was not ever sold by Sharp?
