My newest project: a vintage 5513 homage

    Hello all,

In an effort to start putting my Mk II parts into cases I decided to begin with an homage to one of my favorite watches of all time: the Rolex 5513 Submariner. I wanted to maintain a lot of the elements of the original design like a domed acrylic crystal, non-racheting bi-directional bezel and drilled lugs. Luckily I found a seller on eBay whose watch case checked all the boxes. I only had to the movement (ETA 2836) and I was good to go. I am very happy with the way it turned out except for two things. The font on the bezel insert is too "skinny" for my tastes. The eBay seller is trying to track down an insert with fatter fonts. My other issue is with the seconds hand. While it is a genuine Mk II part it slightly different than the original Sub style. I have a more proper hand I could swap it with, but I would also like to keep the parts all from Mk II. What do you guys think?

Great looking watch, nice work! What's the case diameter and lug width?

Thanks. The diameter is roughly 40mm and the lugs are 20mm, just like the original.

If it were me, I would swap the seconds hand out for one with the correct end.

Now, you just gotta get rid of that date!

Homage watches democratize history for the common wrist.

    Very nice!
    I admire your skill.
Will this have some water resistance?

    Best,
    Johnny

Life is short. How sad to have realized in your death bed that you've worn a crappy watch as a "daily beater" for most of your days.
