UV coating for sapphire cystal on MKIIs for long term protection?

Is it possible to apply a anti-UV coating on a sapphire crystal? Has anyone, whether manufacturer or watchmaker, ever offered this?

I spend my working days outdoors, and wearing one watch (MMT Blackwater) over the last 5 years, I worry about UV damage to the lume and dial. I do understand that UV light does make the lume shine brighter and longer but, professionally, needing lume has been a non-issue.

    Thoughts?

I do not think it is a bad idea but it seems many watch lovers like a little wabi.

It is Wabi. I looked the definition up, and it's from a Japanese term "wabi-sabi' which means perfect beauty being the results of imperfections. With watches, it's the beauty which comes from aging. The dial fades or changes color, the lume ages, and all the results of small "accidents" which to folks who love vintage watches, all add to the beauty and value of the watch.

I'm pretty sure that, traditionally, Wabi refers to the inherent imperfections of man-made items or a simple elegance in their construction, whereas Sabi refers to the degradation of these things over time.

You are talking about a wife, no?

Life is short. How sad to have realized in your death bed that you've worn a crappy watch as a "daily beater" for most of your days.

Rolex still doesn't use UV coating. I think the MkII stuff will be fine too.

Seems like a simple enough thing to get a dial relume in the unlikely event that all that exposure really does affect your dial.
