Doxa Sub 300 Searambler (no T) Found

I am a newbie to this forum and am really looking for information about a Doxa I found in cleaning out the belongings of a home of a relative. It is a Doxa Sub 300 Searambler with the silver face. It is in good working condition. The band is not original and would need replacement.

I am hoping to get some more information. I have done quite a bit of research and understand that this is a rare piece.

I am by no means a watch collector, and have really learned a great deal since coming across this piece and look forward to learning more.

Thanks - you guys really have a great forum here.

The 300 (noT) is the first Doxa Sub, produced and sold only 1967/68. With flat case, plexi glass, small hands and sailboat-logo on the back. Dial colour in orange (Professional), silver (Searambler/Searaider) or black (Sharkhunter). Price was $150.

Here are 2 original ads from these days with further informations:

For this age your watch is looking quite good. A little TLC will bring it back to former condition. But an original bor-band for replacement is hard to source. Anyway I would keep it!

Thanks for sharing the information, Holger. Even though it is not my watch, I was interested in this piece of Doxa history.

You have an impressive Doxa collection! We sure would like to see a photo of your Doxa watches. Cheers, Bill P.

    Bill,

this 2-yr.-old pic is the only group-shot I have actually. One Synchron + the Skindiver are missing on it and the 200 T.Graph wasn't restored then.
    My Doxa-world is orange

New to doxa. What is the "T" designation stand for on some watches?

Interesting that the advertisement refers to the watch as a Sea Raider.
That group of oranges is really nice!

Beside the most common name 'Searambler' some of the very first silver-faced Subs (noT) are designated as 'Searaider'. Don't know the reason for this. This Subs are top rare today. (The whole noT-series was only produced for one year)

Here you can find more pics of this outstanding watch:
    searaider300

The designation 'T' was added to the '300' in 1968 when the Sub was equipped with flat mineral glass and thicker hands. I've read somewhere that the 'T' stands for 'Taucher' which is the German word for 'diver' but I don't know if it's true. Some others say that the 'T' stands for the used lume material Tritium but you find the Tritium-'T' right next to the wording 'swiss made' around the '6' position.

I've always thought the "Taucher" more likely in the case of DOXA. Many watches use the T for tritium, but in most cases I can think of, it is not used in the model name.

And interesting side note on the Searaider moniker, this is from where Subkrawler (a huge fan of DOXA) took the name for the annual diving/watch "rally" in Grand Cayman. The Searaider Rally (see Sub Forum at the top of the page) is an excellent gathering of divers who truly appreciate great watches, offers a wonderful opportunity for world class diving, world class camaraderie with world class people! Highly recommended if you can make it.
