    A French Doxa Sub 300 Sharkhunter ;)

Hello, I'm French and sorry for my bad english ;)
I founded recently this Doxa Sub 300 Sharkhunter and I would like to have your opinion about it.
She works very well and I've just clean it because she was very dirty.

Do you know if this model was created before the 300T ?
Well, everything you know about it (history, web site links, original pictures...).
I love this watch and I wanted to know more about her ;)

    The whrishot ;)

    Thanks for reading me ;)
    Regards.

    Alex.

You have a very handsome Doxa SUB 300 Sharkhunter and it is, indeed, an early version. Everything you want to know is at www.doxa300t.com which is Dr. Pete's website. Great photographs too! Welcome to the wonderful world of Doxa SUBs!

    Hi,

your watch is an early Doxa Sub from 1967. This so called 'noT'-series with acrylic crystal was only produced in this year end then substituted by a model with a thicker case and flat mineral glass. Numbers of production are unknown. It's very rare. Dial colour was available in orange (Professional), black (Sharkhunter) or silver (Searambler/-raider). Price was $150 in that days. Movement ist the very robust ETA2472.

Your watch is in very good condition for this age. The scratches in the plastic glass can be polished out with polywatch and the numbers in the bezel can be repainted for better looking in do-it-yourself-way.

The attached band is the original so called bead-of-rice-band. This is a real plus! The only little bad thing: Although the clasp is original Doxa it normally belongs to a later Sub from the mid 70s. The reasons for this replacement were probably worn-out expansion links.

Congrats to your find and enjoy it

There's my Doxa with a plastic glass polished...
My watchmaker said to me that the plastic glass have little cracks and he think that I have to change it for secure.
Can someone help me to find it please ?
    Thanks for your help ;)

For normal use a standard acrylic glass fits. Easy and cheap. But no guarantee for watertightness. For this you need a special glass with an "extended" rim that could be pressed "deep" into the watchcase. Such glass is not easy to source.

Here's a pic of my original glass to illustrate this:

I had the same problem with my 300: a lot of hairline cracks inside the original glass that couldn'd be polished out. I had it replaced against a standard one with good results but a few months later the watch failed the WR-check because of a loosen glass. My watchmaker is still looking for a replacement.

Thanks Holger for all this details ;)
I think that I'll not change the acrylic glass yet and also don't repaint the bezel.
I'll wear it occasionally to not risk to damage it because it's very nice like this.
I economize actually because I dream since many years to buy a 14060M or 5513, and when I'll be near the amount needed, I'll maybe sell the Doxa... and the owner can (or not) restaure it if he wants.
I think that a collector prefers an original watch without changes.
I'll take some pictures about it the next week end because I'm fan about watch photos ;)
    Regards.

That is a really nice Sharkhunter Alex! All of the vintage 300 (no-T) models I have seen are Orange Professionals. Your Sharkie still looks pretty clean, and it has the Synchron logo bracelet that would have originally come on my 300T Sharkie...makes me jealous! The crystal looks good with the polish! You should wear it, and more importantly, enjoy it!
