    My first new Doxa

Today I received my first new (old) Doxa in the mail (see pics). The person who used to own it said that it belonged to her grandfather.

The number on the case back is 4845215. Is this supposed to be a watch from 1948? I am saying that based on the first two digits on the case back. It seems to be working fine. I should probably replace the glass because it looks a little bit up. The rest of the watch looks ok.

Can anyone share any additional details about this watch? Any info would be great!

    Thanks
    Miguel

    Re: My first new Doxa

I've never heard that the first two digits of the serial number indicate date of manufacturer, so AFAIK, that is not a reliable method to date the watch. Very little information is available on Historic DOXA's unfortunately, and what is available here mostly concentrates on the SUBs, diving watches of the 60's and 70's (and modern reissues of course).

You may have better luck with an approximate date over on the Vintage and Pocket Watch Forum here on WUS, lots of well learned historians there who may pick out an age range based on style/dial font/hands, movement etc. (a pic of the movement is sometimes helpful).
    Regards, T Bone.

T Bone pretty much said it all. The guys on the Vintage Forum really know their stuff though so you may have some luck there. It is a great looking vintage Doxa. I am particularly partial to the aged cream colored dials. One of these days I hope to get one for myself.

    Enjoy yours.

    Re: My first new Doxa

From viewing at your watch I would say it was produced in the 40s.

Here the reasons for my speculation:

    domed and pressed-in caseback
old-fashioned writing on the dial (Doxa with big D)
shape of lugs and the thin crown match to this period
type of hands and subdial-seconds were usually in these days

Replace only the glass and keep the rest as it is!
Nice watch in very good condition! Congrats!
    Best Regards
    Holger
