Why do so few know about DOXA?

I went into a jeweler in Lubbock, Texas today and was shocked to learn that they had never heard of DOXA watches. These are guys that I have purchased from numerous times. In the past they have helped me with a Rolex, Ball Watch, and a Tissott. I would have thought that guys in this line of work would have a pulse on different brands.

That said, it was nice for them to fall all over my new Sub 1200T. Might have converted a few to the dark side. One of them went so fas as to offer a $4,000 Ball Watch as a trade. No dice, this Searambler is staying firmly on my wrist.

Since I received the 600T Pro a few weeks ago, I have literally taken it off my wrist, handed it to 3 different Rolex owners, and explained the history to them. I could tell by they way they were holding the watch and studying it, that at least one of them, and probably a second were going to look up Doxa on the internet.

I kept seeing Guy Fieri wear one years ago. Doxa should have him on contract.

I wore my Sinn U1 to Las Vegas (brought another bling watch for going out at night) and I stopped into a couple of watch shops and every time the sales guys were all over it. They knew Sinn, but acted like they were impossible to get in the US and were crazy rare. I kept thinking visit WUS and they aren't rare or hard to get. I think you'd be surprised how little even watch people know if they aren't on forums.

    And you said NO??!?!?

You could have flipped the Ball and bought another 1200T and a 1500T...and have change for a strap!
Chuck Norris doesn't wear a watch...HE decides what time it is.

    I've had similar experiences.

I'm not that surprised that a sales person at a jewelers or watch store are not familiar with Doxa. I suspect that most of them pay little attention to watches beyond what is required for their job. The more time we spend on the forums, the easier it is to forget that the rest of the world cares very little about watches and are content to use their phone to tell time. I'm actually impressed that the guys to which the OP was referring were well trained enough to recognize the quality of the 1200T Searambler. That, at least, tells me that they care more about their chosen profession than the average jeweler.

I have had the same experiences every time my Doxas are noticed in a quality Swiss watch sales shop. It may seem shocking to us, but even enthusiast watch jewelers rarely have knowledge of watch enthusiast websites. The vast majority just receive their info from the manufacturers with catalog info and new intro packets.

It's the same in most other industries like cars and guns.

I've gone into Ford dealerships to ask about limited edition Mustangs and they know nothing except about the standard V6 and GT Mustangs.

Guys that work at a watch shop aren't necessarily (in fact, are rarely) watch enthusiasts. And unless you're a watch enthusiast, brands like Doxa (and just about every other micro/midi-sized mfr just aren't on your radar screen.

    I agree. Cheers, Bill P.
