    80111 Accuracy?

This calibre piqued my interest recently when it appeared I might be able to afford an Ingenieur. The 7750 base is already well known for stability, but I'm curious how much more accurate the IWC variant is, on average. Also, does anyone know why they went away from a free sprung balance?

The 80111 is not 7750-based, but inhouse.

I've read in several places that it's derived from a 7750 ebauche, but I can't find official confirmation of that. It doesn't matter to me anyway. How's the accuracy on your 80111?

TimeZone: IWC Archive => IWC Caliber 80110 question

I used to have a 3227 with a 80110, basicly the same movement. It ran +2-3 seconds daily and, more important, very stable.

Do you happen to know how many positions they're adjusted to?

I'm also curious why IWC chose not to use a free sprung balance on this one. Has anyone heard why?

Oh, and one more thing, is there an easy way to tell which ones have a display caseback? The movement is too beautiful (for me) to hide, so I'm only interested in those. Maybe there's a magic word IWC uses.

The ones with a display caseback have no magnetic shielding and a cal. 80111 has a relation with having a display caseback (a watch with a cal. 80110 has magnetic shielding AFAIK). AFAIK the ref. 5461, 3231, 3233 and 3228 have a display caseback and a cal. 80111.

That's ok, modern movements are highly resistant to magnetism anyway. I'd rather see the beautiful 80111.
