8th edition: The IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic edition ‘Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’

For the eighth time, IWC Schaffhausen is supporting the good work carried out across the globe by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation with a limited-edition timepiece in characteristic Laureus blue. With the Portuguese Chronograph Classic, the Swiss manufacturer is using a classically inspired timepiece to sponsor a charitable organization that exists to give children all over the world a chance at a better future.

Laureus is an international charity that uses sport to improve the lives of children in disadvantaged areas, and it last week held its 2014 World Sports Awards in Malaysia. IWC’s watch for the event marked the eighth consecutive year it has contributed a limited-edition timepiece in support of the organisation, which receives part of the proceeds.

The money will go towards the charity’s many sports related projects, one of which is the Special Olympics Russia. This aims to train both children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Olympic disciplines and to give them the opportunity to enter sporting competitions – a strong talking point in Russia in the context of the 2014 Winter Olympics and the project’s demand that politicians take a stand against inequality and intolerance when it comes to intellectual disabilities.

IWC’s Laureus edition timepieces traditionally feature an engraving on the case-back designed by the winner of an annual children’s drawing competition organised by both IWC and Laureus to generate awareness surrounding the latter’s activities. This year’s winner was Masha Nikulina, a 16-year-old participant in the Special Olympics Russia project. The image of happy children skiing and playing in the snow is her interpretation of the theme ‘Time to Play’.
