Arrival: Brand New Model - IWC Top Gun 3880

I bought this one sight unseen today and I must say that I am disappointed with it. I sold my Top Gun Dopple (which I loved) for this piece thinking that I would love it even more. Sadly, I do not, not even close as a matter of fact. I don't know if its just an illusion but it feels wider and longer than the Dopple. It's definitely thinner (because there is no double chrono) and the dial is cleaner; but I loved the beefy feel of the Dopple and I loved the busy pilot dial w/day window. This one just seems like it has too much empty real estate on the dial. Maybe I am just being picky and maybe I am just having sellers remorse for selling my beloved Dopple. I dunno but so far I am really not feeling this piece. I got a dozen PM's asking me where I bought my spitfire and how much of a discount I got, i'll get it out of the way now, ZERO and ZERO on this piece as well!

There are some updates to this piece which I do like. The inhouse movement is a plus. The new pilot shape strap is cool and it now comes with a deployment isntead of a tang which is great! The removal of the Top Gun logo on the 9 o'clock side of the case is also nice because it makes the case look clean. And I also like not having the double chrono pusher at 10 o'clock which also adds to making it look a little cleaner than the Dopple Top Gun. The seconds hand is painted black while the tip is white which makes the second hand and fighter jet appear to float, similar to have Rolex did that same concept with their new 42mm black dial Explorer 2.

The black painted second hand makes it hard to find, seems like it would be better painted all white.

Same thing happened when I got the top gun double chrono , it looked awesome on pictures and when I got it in my hand , it just felt not what I thought it would . It's not bad but it was not what I expected . Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1337245279.806824.jpg

I said optical illusion compared to the DOPPLE...NOT the Spitfire in the photo. The Dopple is also 46mm. The 3880 is longer and wider than the Top Gun Dopple.

Buy a big pilot strap, send it to a respectable strap maker, ask him to shave 0.5mm off all four sides, paint it black, and wah lah, you have a big pilot strap that fits the spitfire. IWC needs to add a pilot strap in the box with the spitfire, the brown croc is beautiful but this watch is made for a black big pilot strap in my opinion and everyone else who has seen it.
