Do Hamilton regulate their ETA watches??

I have got a ETA 2824 Thin-o-matic and an ETA 2824 Jazzmaster. Both gained about 20-30 seconds per day from new. I took them to a local watchmaker and he adjusted them with the small regulator screw. It took him about 3 minutes.

Why don't Hamilton do this before they release the watch to the dealer?

Hamilton uses stock Elabore grade ETA movements. These should run at +/- 7 seconds a day out of the box.

Well that's odd because the two I bought (at separate times and from separate retailers) both gained 20+ seconds a day out of the box.

Well technically it's "adjusted in three positions with an average rate of +/-7 seconds/day" - average of the CH, 6H and 9h positions is +/-7 sec/day. Its max positional variance is +/- 20 seconds/day. And even then it may still run differently on the wrist because it's not adjusted in all positions.

They don't do it cause it costs more money :)!

Not all eta's are elaboree. 2824 is standard but more decorated.
    2892,the classic 7750 are elaboree .

My Khaki Field Auto 42mm has only lost 2 seconds since setting it three days ago. Maybe I got lucky?

Cypher, 2824s are available in 4 grades:standard, elabore, top and chronometer. Hamilton uses elabore. Grade level is related to timekeeping ability, number of adjustments and materials of balances and hairsprings. Movement finish is not related to grade, but special finishes such as stripping and perlage can be added to any grade.

Just a quick update. I'm down five seconds total now. Seems I have a very accurate 2824?

Do you have a source for that? I believe it's very much possible that they do, but haven't found anything official saying it.

I have 2 Hammy's. My manual is less then a half a second off a day, and my auto is about 2.5 seconds off a day.

They must regulate them before dropping them in the case.

This is a good thread about grades

ETA chart of basic details: ETA 2824-2, 2892-A2, & 7750
