Gonna Buy One... Help Me Decide.

Yep, its another one of those threads...

I have been wanting a Hamilton for quite a while. I recently received an Amazon gift card, so it looks like it is time to pull the trigger. I have narrowed it down to four choices. I took a serious look at my existing collection and realized some things. First, I have a lot of black faced watches. Not a bad thing, but, for variety, I think I would like to go with a lighter faced dial. Second, I am a graduate student (rebooting my career- I'm 38, and sold a company a few years back), so my style of dress is rather informal. Jeans, khakis, buttondowns, T-shirts- that kind of thing. So, I don't want something that is too dressy. Wrist = 7 1/4 inches.

Here are the choices, and my thoughts each:

    Ventura:

Pros: Love the look. Very different than anything I have now.
Cons: 31mm case (too small?), Black dial, Too far out there for normal wear? Quartz (ho-hum)

    Jazzmaster Viewmatic 40mm

    Pros: Nice size, automatic
    Cons: Too dressy? Somewhat boring?

    Timeless Classic 42 mm

Pros: More casual look. Cool retro vibe, auto, decent size
Cons: No see through caseback, still a little bland (but might look better in person)

    Cushion 44mm:

Pros: I have seen one in person and the case simply shines, auto, again, nice retro vibe
    Cons: Too big?, Too dressy?

All of these watches are within about $100 bucks of each other, so pricing is not a factor.

Looking forward to the responses! Owners, if you have pictures (wrist shots would be great!), I would love to see them.

Thanks for the help guys. Can't wait to join the Hammy club!

All of those watches are relatively dressy. What type of look are you going for?
Of the watches you mentioned, I vote for the Timeless Classic 42mm.

    Omega "SkyFall" AT8500,
G-Shock GW-M5610, Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk A-T Limited Edition (416 of 1000), Citizen Calibre 2100

I have a Cushion and it is very elegent but with lots of presence due its size. I will go with the Cushion
if you have a large wrist if not the Timeless. The Timeless is also very classy. Either one you will be very happy Hamilton owner.

Hey MJR- Thanks for the response. I guess the best way to describe the look I am going for is simply "casual." Just want something that does not look out of place if I am wearing shorts or jeans. Having said that, I am beginning to lean toward the timeless.

Hey Lambchop- What size wrist do you have? Any pictures? Might give me a good idea of the size. I currently have a Magrette Regattare "Bronze" (Brass) that is 44mm, and I like the way that wears... but, I have found that every watch is a little different. I have worn some 42s that have appeared larger than 44 just because of the design. Anyway, I would love to see some wrist shots.

I like the Cushion 44mm. I have big wrists, so I tend toward the bigger cases. Aside from the size, I think the design of the case and how it meets the strap give the watch a unique style. Considering a Jazzmaster Maestro myself. Good luck.

Try the Cushion Chrono if you think those are too dressy

yhm, If I were sit on your chair I would pick the Cushion Chrono.

Its still classic watch, but the chrono makes him more universal.
