Hi all, Lurker finally saying hello w/ question... New Hamilton X-mach buttons & weight make noise?

    Hello everyone,
I've been soaking up all the great info here for a few months... but until now I havent had to post any questions. I recently purchased a Hamilton X-mach and it seems the chrono buttons are very stiff, they also make a clicking noise when pressed. I can get use to that but the two button seem to press differently and click differently. Is this normal for Hamiltons? I also have a Versace that has very similar functioning buttons (please dont judge me about the Versace :).

Also I can hear the X-mach spring weight as it turns. I have a couple other Auto's and they are silent when spinning.

As of now I'm not impressed with hamiltons, this is my first one. I may return it based on the weight of the piece alone... it's a heavy watch! I purchased it new and I imagine Hamilton has good Q.C... That leads me to believe everything is as it should be or it wouldnt have left the factory.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I believe the 7550's chrono buttons are typically stiff. Does your Versace also have an ETA 7750? How stiff the buttons are will depend on the movement as well.

As for the sound, it's likely because the 7750's rotor is unidirectional while many other autos's rotors are bi-directional. That means for the 7750 (and other uni-directional movemets), only one direction will wind the watch and the rotor will be able to free wheel in the other direction. You may also experience the 7750 "wobble"; if it freewheels quickly, you may feel the watch wiggle or wobble :). (Why does the Valjoux 7750 wobble?)

The Valjoux 7750 movement, as found in your Hamilton, winds in only one direction. The other direction causes the rotor to spin freely (I do not know the exact translation) without engaging the winding train.

I think the stiff operation of the pushers might be due to their specific construction. They should indeed click.

Did you inspect the watch at all prior to buying it or do any homework? Of course it's a heavy watch... it's a 7750 chronograph movement and is at least 16mm thick, what do you expect?

The chrono pushers should 100% click when you engage them. My father has a Hamilton X-Wind with the exact same movement, you can also feel and hear the rotor as it winds. My Omega 300M Chrono did the same thing - it's pretty hard to avoid when you have such a large movement with a heavy watch. It never bothered me, though.
I think you are incorrectly directing dissatisfaction with Hamilton when really it is your personal taste. Is this your first automatic? An automatic (chronograph to boot) is noticeably heavier than quartz watches.
That watch you own is very well built, give it the credit it deserves. To say it your disappointed with Hamilton because it's too heavy is ridiculous. Go try on a Rolex Submariner, Omega Planet Ocean 8500, a Tag, etc. and you will find them heavy as well.

    Current:
    Omega "SkyFall" AT8500,
G-Shock GW-M5610, Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk A-T Limited Edition (416 of 1000), Citizen Calibre 2100
    Past:
Omega Railmaster 2503.52, Omega PO 2201.50, Tag Heuer Carrera Heritage, Omega Speedmaster Professional (3870.50), Omega Seamaster 300M Chronograph (2225.80), Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (2901.51.82), Citizen Chrono A-T Limited Edition (799 of 2500), Hamilton King Scuba Auto, Hamilton Khaki Pilot (46mm)
