With a little help from my friends... STOWA EXTRA

    Hello all,

some day i was safari-ing eBay and found an old watch, a STOWA EXTRA.
It was only the dial with hands and the movement. It looked like the old
thing: gold case for money and the movement has to die or go to eBay.

I decided to place a bid and won the auction:

After weeks of searching for a good case, i decided to build one on my own.
But time and money were the killer for that idea.
So i tried my luck at Stowa. The first info i got was: no we have no old
cases and no information anymore about these old movements and cases.
    Too bad.
So i talked to my watchmaker again to give me all possible data of that
dial and movement, to find a working case.
A second try at STOWA, this time by phone, i had more luck. Maybe a
new case will fit! So a gave it a try. STOWA was so kind to take back
the watchcase in case it wont fit.
    I got mail from STOWA:

The old dial was broken, so it was useless. I had to find a new one.
But like magic, the movement, a new dial and the case fitted like they
    were made for each other!
So „with a little help from my friends” i got an old-new special STOWA EXTRA,
    and voila, here it is:

    I'm sorry, but I don't like it.

Especially those bulky hands don't fit that beautiful movement.

This is how it would have looked, after having been restored carefully:

    Ventura, etc. 031

....and this is a "Hybrid-watch", that I like to look at:

    Exima286 und DUROWE 022

    Just my 2 cts.,

Great project and what a beautiful and unique finished product.

This thread is so refreshing. I love Stowas, and I peruse the forum often, but I do get tired of the all too common Why-is-Stowa-better-than-any-other-brand-out-there type threads. Thanks for taking the time to post and congratulations on your success. A real treasure.

    Myron
