leatherworker.net will give you all your questions on edge finishing, burnishing, tools etc..

Tandy Leather is the best place to get all your stuff they ship from their nearest location.

making a strap = easy; making a strap look store bought = harder.

    good luck

Isthmus - AWESOME POST. Very informative links!! I've been wanting to try my hand at making a strap for a little while now and got very motivated after reading the info on the links.

I completed my first 'custom' strap for my Benarus Barracuda (#8). Wanted to share my first attempt...and say thanks again for the post!

The strap is just over 4mm thick and the end is cut on a curve to look like a 'fin'. This one is stitchless. I'll try one with stitching this weekend. Here are a few pics!

    What he said
I've been searching the net trying to find a good tutorial on watch strap making, but can't seem to come up with anything.
This post must have been "The Greatest" when the Photo Buckets were still available.
    TIA

When being active in many different online forums has tought me one thing in all these years it's that the surefire way to ensure that your photos will be gone after a short period of time, rendering your posts useless, is to upload them to photo bucket. They seem to be quite popular and getting mostly good reviews and I can't tell with certainty if they simply suck that badly or if they constantly change their terms of use or if all the people who upload their pictures there do something wrong, but in 9 out of 10 threads that have missing pics I see those photo bucket placeholders and I guess that that's a higher percentage than their market share. I recommend using Imageshack instead; pictures I've uploaded there still show in age old threads.

Good point, which is why I have taken to printing important "HowTo" threads to PDF for future reference. It never fails, the one you really want to refer to is the one that has either lost the photo links or worse, the thread or the site is gone.

I don't have a copy of the above thread though. Anyone else have a PDF?

I think many times if the owner of the pictures rearranges the photos into different albums, that will effectively break the links.

On-topic: Here's a bump for anyone who might have the original pictures. There are a set of videos on youtube that show how to make a leather 2 piece strap. It's in 6 parts starting with this one:
