vintage seiko (8223-5139??) need info and value

i got this watch from my grand father when he passed away. it was his wedding anniversery gift from my grand mother.

i would like some info about this watch and it's average value, if it's worth something. i will not sell it, it's just out of curiosity

on the back, it's written 8223-5139, wich i beleive is the model.

i know it would need a polish and clean, i never worn it.

someone knows more about this one?

    thanks!

I would say it depends upon what "worth something" means to you. If you are looking to cash in on this watch, then you're out of luck since only the most obscure seiko quartz watches (and specialized divers) reach the "thousands of dollars" range, while most are lucky to fetch a few hundred. Even some grand seiko quartz watches can be found very cheaply. Your watch is a common model with an 8223 caliber quartz movement and therefore not all that valuable as a collectible.

Maybe the worth of this watch having a strong family connection is enough to justify hanging onto it? Especially when compared to what you might get for it [in all but the most desperate of circumstances].

Yes, japanese quartz watches are not collactible. I guess you'll have a hard time getting $30 of of it. Secondly, spare parts for it are not aviable anymore. It is from the year 1981. However it was a decent quartz watch at it's time, back then, before Seiko discovered plastic as a plate, bridge and wheel material.
