LACO visit THU, 2017 July 13 Part 1 - Bronze Erbstück

When Bhanu and I visited LACO last week the very first watches presented to us were the new LACO Flieger Erbstück featuring bronze cases.
Prototypes have already been showcased at this year's Baselworld. If I understood correctly they will come to the ADs very soon.

IMHO the new Flieger bronze cases are looking really cool. They are 45mm in diameter, height is about 13mm. The case is sand blasted bronze, lug width is 22mm.

An interesting feature of the bronze models is that their leather straps are basically carbon copies of the original ones pilots used in the 1940’s.
However, Laco staff isn't sleeping, they are currently experimenting with "artificially" aged textile straps. One of the very first ones were shown to us

Laco has still a few vintage watches in their possession so these timepieces are as close to the original as it gets, of course they are bronze. Laco have taken their original "Erbstück" pilot watches to the next level. By beautifully forging the 45mm case out of bronze, the watch is designed to relic and getting patina over time, which - after some time - provides a truly unique timepiece.

Heated blued hands and classic Type A and Type B dial configurations pay tribute to the time pieces of WW II. The dial of the Bronze Erbstück models is also finished in a slightly 'tropical' style, and the beautiful distressed leather strap is crafted out of vintage leather to complete the look.

The case back is stainless steel to protect the bronze from touching the skin.
The bronze flieger is available in a 45mm case with handwinding (Laco 01) and automatic (Laco 24) movement in both Baumuster A and B type dial as shown above.

    All specs together:

    Movement:
    Automatic movement Laco 01
    Diameter: 45mm
    Height: 13mm
    Lug to Lug: 53mm
    Lug: 22mm
    Dial Colour: Black
    Crystal: Sapphire Crystal
    Case: Bronze, sand blasted
Strap: closed loop leather strap, brown, artificially aged, 22mm
    Lug to Lug: 53mm
    Water Resistance: 50m

Do you know if they plan on eventually making it in 42mm?

Difficult to say. I think they will decide to go for 42mm if they get promising figures on how the 45mm will sell ? Don't know.

It's bronze. It's Erbstück. I'm falling in love.
I second tommyboy31, if they make the 42mm version I'll be all over it. I hope Laco would read this.

At the moment we're not planing to make it in a 42 mm version at the moment, but if the demand is big enough - who knows...

They look gorgeous. Bronze compliments the Erbstuck look. And as they accumulate patina they should look really outstanding. Probably the coolest bronze watch I've ever seen.

That is one hell of a beautiful watch!! I'd be interested in a 42mm size.

45mm size, i believe, would be a hard gauge for sales/interest as it would really only appeal to collectors and or men on steroids...

Sounds logical, you do not need the artificial aging process used for the stainless steel case.
