Why are Manual Movements more expensive than a Automatic?

I'm not too sassy about the mechanics of a watch. Though it appears the enthusiast lust for a manual wind over the automatic movement.
Is the quality of the movement higher typically in a manual? Or is it just personal choice?

Also, I have heard people say an Auto has to be serviced every 5 to 10 years.. Does a manual need the same tune ups?

I think beside the whole auto vs manual argument, the reason why the manual version (ETA 2801) costs more is that it's likely harder for Laco to source them. Uwe can correct me if I'm wrong.

    I think you nailed it.

Supply and demand is a powerful contributing factor when it comes to pricing most things. The less gas that's available for our cars to burn, the more expensive it will become.

That's a question for ETA isn't it... and I should have corrected myself that Laco no longer use 2801, instead it's 2804 with date wheel removed.
