    Suunto Core disasembly photos

    Suunto Core Disassembly Photos

Pretty straight forward. Pop off the bezel. Remove the four screws and lift off the crystal ring. Carefully flip over the case and the LCD module comes out easily, it is connected to the case back sensor by a harness. Reverse process to reassemble. Thats it...

As an example of Suunto's build quality, it's interesting to see what look like stainless steel threaded inserts in the resin case for the screw threads holding the crystal ring. Stronger, and more reliable than screwing straight into the resin. Compare this with Casios which have screws going straight into the resin - to hold the back on. Even more significant when the back on a non-solar Casio might have to be removed and replaced several times in the service life of the watch (and the screw holes therefore more subject to wear), but the crystal ring on the Suunto might never have to be removed in the life of the watch - unless it needs a service.

I find it strange that the bezel can be easily removed, but no replacement bezels seem to be available. Seems a bit short sighted by Suunto to not offer these and other parts for those that want a change. Dont even get me started on the Lug adapters .

Just not the way they do business I guess. I collect G shocks, one nice thing is that Casio sells bezels, parts, straps, etc... Suunto never has.

I agree, I wish they did.
