Sorry but I couldn't imagine we are not allowed to press the buttons on a 20ATM G-shock while underwater :/

I've emailed Casio before about one of my G's and they flat out responded that the 200M G's are fine to be operated underwater. Now you have your answer ;)

Not really I don't have my answer yet I don't see why Casio cannot state in manual if button is allowed to be pressed under wAter. It's just a 'yes' or 'no'.

Under normal activities, swimming, snorkling, etc then it's fine. But if you try to go down lets just say 300' diving with a gas mixture and try pushing the buttons, the pressure that deep could cause the watch to flood. So there is no way Casio could cover all different types of situations, so it's easier to just say no.

beating a dead horse, under water button operation news from Casio

I know this comes up all the time and is in the FAQ thread but just thought I would share a recent email from Casio.

I sent an email to Casio asking if the G2300's buttons could be operated under water and if not which products did allow button operation under water and this was the response...

Thank you for contacting Casio America Inc. Unfortunately these watches
could not be used underwater as the buttons are not sealed for
functioning under water. We not not manufacture a watch that will allow
    this.
I apologize for any inconvinince this may casue you. And again, thank
you for contacting Casio America Inc.

I just purchased a GW7900-1 and when reading reviews on Amazon I saw this follow up to a review where the customer emailed Casio and asked the same question regarding the button operation of his GW7900B-1...

    (from Casio)
The GW7900B-1 has a water resistance of up to 200M. These models do permit underwater button operation.

We hope that we were able to assist you with your question and again, thank you for contacting CASIO AMERICA."

While I feel that Casio is just covering their back side in the response I received, it makes me wonder if you aks 10 diff. customer support reps if you will get 10 diff. answers and what is the "Casio truth"?

Well, you'd think they would include something so fundamental in the manuals, wouldn't you? Glad this clears it up, although experience tells me that underwater button operation is OK (although not recommended).

looks like the same answers to me. you can take them underwater, but don't actively use them underwater. better for casio so say not to use it and get only a few complaints from the people who didn't listen to them than it is to allow it and and get half of their customers complain to them because they lacked good judgment.

I don't understand why is Casio so confident about it's shock capabilities and such a wuss when it comes to water resistant. Can button operation be allowed under water. Yes or no? Simple question. Can I drop a G Shock watch? Yes or no? Also a simple question.

Well I had to do it, I sent an email to Casio including my response from them regarding the G2300 and also the listed response on Amazon regarding the GW7900B-1 and this was the response.....

    Dear Mr Caldwell
Thank you for contacting Casio America. I believe the G-Shocks are rated
to 200M or 20B. I have the following listed for ISO 200M watches
Models permit button operation except where buttons are countersunk.
Avoid all button operation when water is soapy.
Clean watch after immersion in sea water using clean fresh water and
    wipe dry.
Buttons will withstand water ingress at a STATIC pressure as indicated
on the watch. However when performing under water activity the dynamic
pressure generated through movement is greater than static pressure.
As a reminder our live help line is 800-435-7732 opt 5.
    Thank you for selecting Casio!

    There you go.
