    G-Shock Myth Busters: Does a DW-6900 bezel fit a GW-6900?

I got a question from Zeroed4x if the bezel of a DW-6900 fits a GW-6900 case. I assumed that the bezels won't fit, because there is a small difference in height of both models. Zeroed4x replied that Casio Tech Support answered that the bezels will fit.

Well, I wasn't sure of my answer and Casio Tech Support seems to know what they are talking about. There is only way to find out if the bezels are interchangeable. I was reading my messages lazy in bed, listening Sunday shouting, so I got up and grabbed a G-6900, GW-6900 and a DW-6900.

Well, there is a little difference in the bumper/button protector on the side. The G-6900 bezel (on my GW-6900, these bezels are interchangeable) has a smaller bumper. In the Macro above you can see the DW-6900 is about 1mm higher.

In case of doubt: Left the DW-6900, right a G-6900.

After stripping the bezels off, more differences occurred. The DW-6900 has a recessed ADJUST button, while this is not on the G-6900. Note that there are also differences in the shape of the cases where the strap is attached.

Also Casio uses slightly longer screws on the G(W)-6900.

And then the final test. The shape of the case might be different and small differences appear on the bezel too, but that does not necessary mean that bezels would not be interchangeable.

The GW-6900 bezel does in no way even want to fit the DW-6900. It is somewhere too small, I can't even pull it over the buttons on one side. So will it fit: "NO"

Then the DW-6900 bezel over the G-6900. Witt some brute force I got it pulled over the buttons, but you feel that is isn't fitting over the whole case. Also I noticed the light button is slightly lower than on the DW-6900. It will not fit in any way you try. SO does a DW-6900 bezel fit a G(W)-6900? Anwer: "No!" Myth Busted.

Below a group photo of the participants: Pink DW-6900, black G-6900 with GW-6900 bezel and straps and yellow GW-6900 with G-6900 bezel and straps.

    Conclusion: "Myth Busted!"

Sjors, thanks so much for providing this information. Isn't it fascinating how CASIO doesn't take the effort to conserve on the costs of resin molds? You'd figure with how marginal the size and shape differences are, CASIO could have made the DW-6900 case exactly the same as the G-6900 so that they wouldn't need to create new resin molds.

Also, did you know that there is another G-Shock CASIO made that is very close in design to the 6900? The GL-220. I was figuring that maybe it might be sized the same and could interchange bezel and band. But given how the GW-6900 and DW-6900 don't have compatible bezels being essentially "twin" models, I'll bet the GL-220 bezel/band wouldn't fit either.

Great post Sjors, I wish I read this before trying to this to a mod a few weeks ago. I have a question though about the yelow gw6900a-9. I have one, and mine is slightly different (I'm positive it's real...lol) On the top of the screen, mine says "multi-band 6" in blue. Yours says it in Red. Also my "G" is off-white/grey, and your "G" button is Black. Why is this? (here's a stock photo of what mine looks like) Name: GW-6900A-9.jpeg
