Exclamation WUSSE Proteus - SUMMARY THREAD - modem melter

IF YOU WANT TO JOIN OUR PROJECT, PLEASE SIGN UP HERE: WUSSE - Reserve List

    Hi all,
after receiving too many requests to explain this and that, to answer many question regarding price, size, look and other elements, I decided to prepare this thread, where I will summarize what we achieved so far.

First of all, I would like to thank all involved:
    1. Thank you Uwe W. for helping with start of this project, for keeping things organized and for managing reserve list and limited edition numbering thread.
    2. Thank you Simon (Triton) for your big help with design, expertise regarding the manufacturing and all related issues, and for coordination of this project with Steinhart.
    3. Thank you ConstantUA for your contribution to the graphics on the caseback.
    4. Thanks to all of you who kept your interest and involvement at high levels and participated in our designing and voting threads.
    5. Thanks to Gunther Steinhart and his company for making this possible and for many other beautiful watches they produce!
    Our goals:
    1. limited edition Steinhart watch
    2. price around or bellow 500EUR
    3. design decided by voting of people interested in buying the watch
Our first vote was regarding case and out of several designs, Triton Non-Rotating Bezel case was selected.

Second vote was about the movement. The winner of that vote was:
ETA 2893-2 Movement with GMT, date and hack complications

Third vote was about dial shade:
    Dark dial shade has won

Fourth vote was about dial layout and somehow was skipped and we continued to fifth vote, which was about very similar element, dial overal look and the winner was:

Sixth vote was about hands set and the winner was:

Seventh vote was about name of the watch, obviously, the winner was:
PROTEUS - the story behind this name is like this:
Proteus - In Greek mythology, Proteus (Πρωτεύς) is an early sea-god, one of several deities whom Homer calls the "Old Man of the Sea"[1], whose name suggests the "first", as protogonos (πρωτόγονος) is the "primordial" or the "firstborn". He became the son of Poseidon in the Olympian theogony (Odyssey iv. 432), or of Nereus and Doris, or of Oceanus and a Naiad, and was made the herdsman of Poseidon's seals, the great bull seal at the center of the harem. He can foretell the future, but, in a mytheme familiar from several cultures, will change his shape to avoid having to; he will answer only to someone who is capable of capturing him. From this feature of Proteus comes the adjective protean, with the general meaning of "versatile", "mutable", "capable of assuming many forms". "Protean" has positive connotations of flexibility, versatility and adaptability." (from Wikipedia)

As a son of Poseidon, Proteus was a brother to Triton, so a nice tie in there. The symbolic link to versatility is another good thing for a sport watch such as the WUSSE. We could use a seal as the image on the case back, since Proteus was the sheperd of Poseidon's seals....

Eight vote was about case material and finish and the winner was:
Brushed titanium. For technical reasons, the caseback will be stainless steel.

Ninth vote was about the crown and the winner was:

Tenth vote was about case back engraving, the winner was:
Proteus engraved on solid case back, you will see it later in this thread.

Eleventh vote was about caseback engraving and the winner was:

Twelfth vote was about dial colour and the winner was:
Midnight blue - the color that under low light conditions looks like black, but outdoor or under very strong light looks like very deep blue color.

Thirteenth vote was about the lume and the winner was (in this picture the winner is on the left side - blue lume BGW9):

Fourteenth vote was about premium package and the winner was:
    No need for premium package.

Fifteenth vote was about dial lettering font and the winner was:

Sixteenth vote was about exact text on the dial and the winner was:

Seventeenth vote was about colour of dial text and the winner was:
shiny silver 3D print - this will be done by applying several layers of silver colour, thus creating 3D effect.

Eighteenth vote was about placement of limited edition number and the winner was:

Triton has prepared some nice surprise in the design of the bezel: it will be swappable and the bezel will be kept in place by three bolts as you can see bellow:

Also, using design sketches from ConstantUA, Triton has prepared final design of caseback engraving, which you can admire bellow. In the picture bellow, exact dial lettering is not yet used, but for overal impression of the watch, I think this picture serves the purpose nicely:

    Summary:
Final product will cost around 500EUR.
    Case diameter is 45mm
    Lug size is 24mm
    WR is 30ATM (300m)
Automatic movement ETA 2893-2, GMT, date, hack
    BGW9 blue lume
Titanium brushed case with stainless steel engraved case back
    Midnight Blue dial
Swappable bezels, one stainless steel, other DLC coated black, both with 24h scale

So, this is all for now folks, we still have no official release date, but I expect it to be done no sooner than October.

In case of other question you might have, please do a search of this sub- forum. Thank you!

4 screwholes instead of 3 one could put 12 at top of bezel, making it even more versatile.

    Hi Czehy,

    Many thanks for the summary.

Just curious, has the strap design been decided or will we use Steinhart's existing collection?

    Cheers

During the designing process, I vaguely remember, that Steinhart was about to prepare something special for our project, which was kept secret. The same was regarding the box. I think this is yet to be discussed with Triton. I will shoot him a PM to see whats going to be the final decision on this question.
