Girard-Perregaux, luxury Swiss watchmaker and partner of the Festival Lumière, honored iconic Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino recipient of the 5th Lumière Award. The Lumière Award was created by The Lumière Institute to celebrate an artist, in Lyon, the very place where the cinematograph was invented by Louis and Auguste Lumière, where they shot their first film, Sortie d’Usine, in 1895.

Following the award ceremony, Quentin Tarantino was presented a Girard-Perregaux 1966 Annual Calendar and Equation of Time.

‘Quentin Tarantino has left his mark on cinema to become one of the most influential and distinctive directors of his generation. His bold creative spirit has brought great innovation to modern cinema’, said Michele Sofisti.
With this partnership, Girard-Perregaux will support the Institut Lumière in its ongoing efforts to work on the promotion of film heritage.

The Lumière film festival is part of the Brand’s engagement on behalf of the cinema. Late in 2012, Girard-Perregaux announced it would be the Exclusive Timekeeper and a Founding Supporter of the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, to be located in Los Angeles and slated to open in 2016.

An enigma of a watch much like Tarantino himself. It combines one of the most useful complications with the annual calendar with arguably the least useful with the equation of time complication. I don't know how many times in my 46 years I have pondered what the difference between mean and true solar time was at a precise moment, but I am sure it is less than 1... Not saying I wouldn't like to have one, I have actually pondered it before since I really want an annual or perpetual and this has an added conversation piece, but I think for the conversation to last more than 10 words one would have to find a more nerdy than normal WIS.

I saw and tried on this equation 1966 watch. Cant say much about quality of movement inside, but a truly stunning design and finish. I cant believe how can annual calendar and equation complications make u still feel dial is so neat and elegent.
There is no such thing as a collector's watch.

I was reading down the article waiting for the unveiling of some crass monstrosity... only to see one of the nicest, freshest watches ever to come out of Switzerland.

    Nice surprise.

    Surely on a tribute to Tarantino the numbers on the dial should go 6, 8, 7, 9, 10, 3, 4, 11, 12, 1, 2, 5?
