Re: Ikepod, please share your thoughts

With all due respect, a luxury watch with std ETA powered movt may do well, very well in the open market if marketed well ... there are plenty of celebrities, wannabes and silly rappers with open wallets out there. Hublot has been robbing ppl doing EXACTLY THAT.
But it will surely fail to impress anyone who has frequented a watch forum and gathered some knowledge of what makes a timepiece *horologically interesting* ... and sure, a well decorated in-house movement is truly one of the many things that count ...
Unless I have 30 other 10K watches in my closet, I won't even think of spending my hard earned money on this ...

For me, the ceiling point of an ETA powered watch is probably 4K .. Even companies like Bremont and LW are pushing the limits there and they know that .. producing very limited editions and constantly changing their collections ..

Even if an intelligent being were to pick an Ikepod watch and subsequently try and sell it off, he/she would be lucky to get 30-40% of their initial investment ..

Again, its my opinion and is likely not a perfect take at this .. but most on my fellow 'snobs?' on WUS would agree on this..

I wonder if the VC cal. 1120 (JLC cal. 920*) is considered a poor movement since it's not "in-house"

    *Also AP cal. 2121/2120.
    Collection:
A few of this and some of the other ...

I wouldn't buy simply because the design does not appeal to me( I think they are kind of ugly)! On another note, IWC is a watch company that uses ETA movements and I would gladly spend five or more thousand to get a hold of one of their Aquatimers!!!! I cannot find a diver I like better at least to look at and that is the most important part of any watch, its looks!

    Regards,

    Ren

PS It should also keep good time!! ETA movements do that just fine!!!!

    Can't agree more.

Nonetheless, ETA movement for 10 grand euros??

Jeez, for that amount, I would seriously go for GO or JLC in-house movement watches.

ETA or In-house, bottom line is .. The Watch Should Do The Talking.
and These Ikepod Aren't Singing Baby !

IWC does tend to add some pretty hefty modifications to std ETA movements which makes them very desirable ... But given the option, why won't I pick up a JLC/Blancpain/IWC, even a pre-owned AP in the price range of an Ikepod ?

I agree more. There isnt any aesthetic attached to these watch. Of course its subjective, may be the OP likes it.

BTW, I like the quote from your signature Nishant. haha... =D

    No, thank you.
I'm not even bothered with discussions of ETA versus in-house movs, because I find them - IMHO - aesthetically unacceptable.
    Sorry.
