Swiss watch brand Jaquet Droz has launched a new limited edition version of its Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine timepiece.
The Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine features a dial and oscillating weight cut from a disc of aventurine creating the authentic effect of a star-filled night sky.

The bezel of the white gold case and the signature figure 8 shaped motif around the dial are edged with 382 brilliant cut diamonds. The watch has been redesigned to a new diameter of 39mm. The aventurine, with its scattering of tiny gleaming shards, is like a night sky in miniature, echoed by the blued steel hands. A delicate touch of mother-of-pearl is introduced as which plays with the effects of light and the reflections of the exquisite gems.

The hours and minutes dial in white mother-of-pearl is easily legible while the tourbillon, protected in its sapphire crystal frame. On the case back is a custom-made piece of aventurine set into the gold oscillating rotor and affixed with the two gold stars that form the signature of Jaquet Droz.

For the first time Jaquet Droz has paired the tourbillon with a mineral dial and has placed this particular complication in a 39 mm case. The self-winding mechanism is fitted with a power reserve of 7 days. The Grande Seconde Tourbillon Aventurine is limited to just 28 pieces. No word on price yet but, like the watch itself, it’s likely to be astronomical.

Beautiful dial, but the diamond-incrusted bezel and lugs totally destroy it for me, just looks tacky.
