    Questions About Royal Oak Offshore

I saw a Royal Oak Offshore today for a real good price. Almost a too good to be true price so I thought I'd ask some questions. It is a 25721ST.OO.1000ST.08
It had No 8520 on the back then automatic and a longer number beginning with F between the screws. Is 8520 the serial number? Is the F number the case number?

One picture I saw of a back looked like the writing on the back was black. On the watch I saw it was the same color as the rest of the back.

The watch was heavy and looked good. It came with a Audemars Piguet box. The one thing that I wondered about was the stem. When I unwound it there were three positions to the stem, winding, date setting and a hacking time setting position. When it was in the first position it didn't really seem like it was winding anything. There really wasn't any resistance. Also when I tightened the crown down, it only screwed down a turn or two.

Of course I don't have any pictures of the watch I saw but it did look a lot like this one. However, I am aware that fakes are good. If you have any tips or advice to checking out a Royal Oak, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Chad

At that price, fake or stolen is likely.

I'd only buy if the seller agreed to independent authentication. Expect to pay around $100 for a AP dealer to authenticate the watch and check with AP to see if the watch is on their stolen list. For your protection and the seller's protection, the typical way to do the transaction is to call up the local AD and make an appointment for authentication. The seller gets cash if the watch passes.

Any seller who won't agree to meeting at the AD to do the transaction for a watch worth this much should not be trusted. It is safer for both of you.

    This is excellent advice...

That watch used should be in the $10-15k range depending on its condition.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Yes, $4,500 is good sum of money, but your reply could have given the original poster the wrong idea if people didn't follow up with the answer to his question. I'm glad nothing bad came of this because I could easily see someone reading your reply and agreeing to buy the watch for $4,000 when in reality it's either stolen or fake.

    +1 on fake or stolen.

Not sure who the seller is but ROO's are easily in the $15K range for good condition with box and papers. Have it authenticated. It's a fairly easy watch to copy as I've seen tons of pretty good looking fakes.

I knew that $4500 was a very low price, that's why I said it was a too good to be true price. Doing research I am about 80% sure it's real. The questions I have are about the screw down crown and the winding. The threads aren't as deep as on my other watches and when I tried to wind the watch it didn't seem like there was any resistance.

I see the watch as being sold. Did you purchase?
